i have a 04. 5 "600" w/ a banks six gun w/spd ldr,it has 6 settings 1=stock2,3,4,5,6=max power. i did upgrade the intercooler intake to a "high-ram" intake(by banks)and upgraded the air-intake to a. f. e. stage-one ,so shes breathing good. i have an electronic boost gauge and set on 2-4 it will read 32psi to36psi,then set on 5 it reads 36psi to 38psi ,and set on 6 it will read upto 42psi!my question is there a certin number the turbo stops boosting air at,or is the boost gauge kinda a "numbers game"?dont get me wrong when set on 5 while driving then switching it to 6 ,it does have an affect--a good one she puts you back a bit in the seat . again just wondering if could over boost your turbo, thanks for any info--LA

It is said that anything over 30 with stock turbo is out of the envelope. I'm sure some others will chime in. Use the search feature.

I was told that you will find them anywhere between 28 and 32 it just depends on your truck, they are all different even though they are said to be all the same... .

p-bar thanks for the advice, but i dont know where the search is. i would be interested in reading those threads ---LA

I am thinking it was the last issue of the tdr that had the chart showing the air temp ,as the boost climbed it started making heat not really air flow above 24 psi. that is the point on the hy-35 that it is no longer pushing more air molecules but instead making heat, which I should not have to say is not good. try and find a copy to look at the chart that is included on the test boost/temp climbs even till 24 then temp goes up very fast compared to the boost. which in turns is telling you that the unit is not being effiecient, and might be costing you power. doug and joe have the info in the tdr you just need to read it. boost is climbing up from the added fuel you are adding as you increase the power enhancement, each truck should be close but not exact on the results. as far as the amount of boost it is regulated by wastegating the unit to blow off extra boost. My truck with similar mods, makes very similar boost numbers. Ive been lead to believe that the stock turbo will only make more power to about 30psi. But that higher boost 38 to 40 should help with egts because of more flow. You dont have more air molecules because the air density goes down as boost air is heated via compression, but the volume of "less dense" air is greater at 38psi than at 30psi. Now this could be pure bunk!!

As to turbo damage depends on who you ask, some say more than 30psi your asking for trouble, some say dont worry about it. Im really hoping to trash mine so I wont feel bad about a big single or twins going on my truck. :D

Amen brother. :D With my luck, my stocker will last until the day after I order a new truck. Gotta crank up that boost to avoid wasting money on a new turbo just to trade it off.

RMALONE-THANKS,DO YOU THINK AN AFTERMARKET INTERCOOLER WOULD MAKE a difference with air-density vs. high boost presure vs. egts?so it would be fair to say that if an intercooler kept air cooler by volume then a turbo could move the cooler air with positive results at higher preasures?! or anyones response is much welcomed --LA
