New Pump

Well I have been out of town so I am sorry I didn’t get to reply sooner. To say the least it runs awesome. I will tell you this it turns daylight into darkness

Well the pump shop that I deal with got the new parts on Wednesday and I pulled into town about 1200 hours on Thursday. I let my pickup sit in the parking lot for a while to cool down and at about 1500 hours I pulled it into the shop and started taking my old pump off. As soon as we got the old pump off. We put it on the test stand to see how much fuel I was getting out of it.

Next step was to dismantle the pump and install the new parts. I have a few pictures of the new parts and I will post them as soon as I get my new computer which should be a couple of days. The new parts look awesome and everything went together without any complications. So we put the new pump on the test stand. HOLY $#!T THIS THING WILL FLOW SOME FUEL. We had to take the numbers and cut them down because the beakers that hold the fuel were up to the top and you couldn’t read the numbers. After we did this we got a set of numbers and then you had to multiply them by four. The numbers we got were a little suspicious we were loosing quite a bit of flow at the upper rpm levels on the test stand. We put the pump on anyways. After talking to a couple of different guys about the matter we didn’t think to change the injectors on the test stand. We used the Oem spec Bosch injectors for the Ve pump. We have come to the conclusion that they can’t handle the amount of fuel at the upper rpm's. We should have used some bigger injectors that were able to handle the amount of fuel that this pump is capable of producing. I didn’t have time to take the pump off again this trip so after the dyno day this next weekend I hope to get back up to Oregon to put this thing back on the flow stand.

Well here is where it gets interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We got the pump all bolted up and we finally started it. It was very rough at idle. I think we had a little bit of air in the system. Made some adjustments and it started running smooth. So I start revving it up hit about 1500rpms and it started to take off  . Got her shut down around 3500rpms. Backed the fuel screw out about 1/2 turn and started it up again. This time it tried to take off at 2000rpm's and again we got it shut down around 3500rpms. Backed it out another 1/4 of a turn and all is well. Was going to take it for a test run, but I had a few to many beers and didn’t want to take a chance so we called it a night it was allready 2100 hours. I just figured that I would just take it out in the morning. Well when I woke up around 0730 hours and when I looked out side I saw a nice blanket of white stuff. WTF I was pi$$ed #@$%! . We headed back to the shop to put all of the tools away. I had an appointment so I left.

Well the sun came out and melted the snow off of the road it was still wet, but it wasn’t too slick. I decided to go for a rip. It feels so good. It made a night and day difference. It smokes like a freight train even at full boost it still leaves a haze. I also heard my blow off valves working for the first time. They are set for 60#’s. It does try to get a little squirrelly even in 4th and 5th gear  . I am going to leave every thing the way it is since I already have a base line dyno run on the same dyno that I will dyno on this next weekend. My gut feelings are 550hp give or take 20hp on diesel only. I believe that I will be over 600hp on water/meth. I will post the numbers when I get off the rollers.

The KTA special is flat out awesome. This opens a whole new set of goals for the first gen crowd. This will defiantly help level the playing field with those guys that run those inline pumps. I just want to thank KTA and Carl @ Bradley’s Diesel Injection Service.

244cc's@500rpm's no air

360cc's@500rpm's with air

290cc's@850rpm's with air

266cc's@1000rpm's with air

All of these were done on a Bacharach model 10 test stand. Rpm's=x2 on the pickup. The cc's have allready been changed.

This is where we thought that the test injectors were prabably too small. It shouldnt drop that fast when you bring up the rpm's. From all of the people that I talked to they all said the same thing. Test injectors were too small.

Pastor Bob

Getting kind of greedy aren't you. :-laf

That means that there isn't that many left. Actually there might not be any more. I guess I should have bought two. :{

:p Well,... . who said I was only gonna run one at a time... . :p

I didn't (don't) know how many are available... if someone gets short changed on this I'll go with one if it means helping someone else get theirs... . I bet more will be ordered :D:D

Oh, ever seen one of these on a Dodge... .

Awww come on Pastor, don't post THAT picture! Next thing ya know Sleddy will be in here pushing buttons. :-{} :-laf .

Way to keep em on their toes Stomp. More fuel to ya! ;)

Ah I forgot about this thread.

Swank I don't have a permeant fuel pressure gauge so I have no idea how it affected the pressure. I did have to redo my supply pump set up. My electric Carter pump could not keep up with my stock pump so I put on a new stock supply pump and run it with my Carter pump. I guess I should check the pressure again just to see where I am at. I would hate to ruin my new pump. I have been thinking about going to a Fass system. I believe that it should provide enough fuel right. :D

"..... Pastor Bob: Nice picture... why'd you reverse it?... . "

What's reversed... ??? The pic itself??

I'm gonna go look at the one I posted and compare them Matt,,,,

edit: ahhh crap... . I see what you mean/happened...

When I was editing the pic for gamma correction/contrast etc I must have chosen an "invert" option from the look of it, OR, This pic was taken from a few I took with my cell phone camera... . so maybe it was set wrong ... . darned if I know for sure. .

You're right, it is bass-ackwards... my bad. . :(
