I want to put a storage box across the front of my truck box. The metal ones are too much $ for me and I have a canopy on the truck so some of them won't work anyway. My brother will build it out of wood for me. I just have to cover the cost of materials.

I have some general ideas but as always there are a ton more on here. Outside dimensions would be roughly 60" wide, 20" tall ( box height ) and 24" front to back. This would allow me to put a 2 x 6 in the box slots closest to the front side of the wheel well and anchor the box to it so as to keep it in place. It would have a piano hinge about 3" from the front edge to allow it to tilt forward and stay open, with a slight slope down just in case water got on top of it. I would like some movable dividers and a tray about 4" deep that would slide from side to side for small stuff, like a deep freeze basket. A plastic tray or liner would be nice to keep spills and drips contained, like oil jugs etc...

Your comments and suggestions please. I know I won't have any trouble filling it with stuff :) Shadrach

I would consider some weather resist wood such as Teak, Redwood, Cypress or IPE. Ipe wood is from South America and I believe has recently be come available at hardwood dealers. I do not believe you would find this wood at the local Home Depot or Lowe's.

I have attached the MDS for this wood. Ipe Lumber- ipe wood's properties, toxicity, hardness etc.

In the wood working world it has been will received as an outdoor type wood that will last and not rot.
