My muffler and cat are now replaced by a 3" straight pipe ($65 installed)and the truck is only slightly louder when giving it the pedal. At cruising speeds the difference is not detectable at all in the cab. I cannot say how it will sound under load but at this point I would say spending money on a muffler is a waste. I would highly recommend this modification, especially if your muffler needs replaced anyway. The dual exhaust chevy crowd is much louder than my straight pipe CTD.

Just put 4" from turbo to 5"chrome tip no muff no cat. You can not belive how loud this thing is. No really, this thing is incredibly loud, I mean at 2000 rpm the noise is deafining. (but it's sooo cool) I think I'll leave it for a while. Turbo spools up quicker and cools down quicker. Performance is tough to compare as I did the gov. spring kit at the same time (hows 110 mph with 4:10 gear?)

I purchased a 96 3500 ext cab auto with 50k on the clock. When the weather got cold and I had to double click the grid heater on start up I had smoke from the engine compartment rolling out of the dash vents. I went to DC and they wanted to know if the smoke was coming out of the vents or me. I proved it to them and they wanted to do nothing since it was still under warranty. I upon reading some of the TDR articles, removed the cat to the garage and went with a straight pipe in its place. That ended the smoke in the cab, infact the chief passenger noticed that it did not smell like a diesel anymore. Since that time, the muffler fell off and now I am straight and breathing easier. The kick down and spool up is quicker and the mileage has stayed the same.

Scary I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER! From what your'e saying in a half a$$ attempt by our gov/corp to clear up the air out side they gas us in our vehicles! #ad
Was there ANY evidence of an exhaust leak?

Whats next... a hose from pipe to passenger compartment so we filter the air in our lungs! #ad
