I thought about putting a stack on my truck. I wanted to put it beside the bed right in the groove between the cab and the bed on the passenger side. However, for fear of a divorce or something like that I didn't do that. I was going to customize a set of running boards to go around the base of the pipe. I was also going to put a heat shield on it. Case-IH sell some nice pipes and heat shields for the Magnum tractors (Cummins powered of course). If I remeber correctly, I could get a 4" curved stack with a heat shield for under $200 (seemed to be fairly good quality too). I think the pipe would have been even with the top of the cab. Currently I am happy with the rear exhaust setup I have because it can be loud or it can be quiet in the cab. I will try to get some pictures of the exhaust setup on my website in the next couple of weeks.

Hey Field Boss, Pentwater is just 40 miles north of here and I go up that part of the woods on a weekly basis on business, but I don't know your friend. I do drive my truck thru on my trips(right now they have a bridge out, so I have to take the long way into town) so if your buddy sees me have him wave. My wife doesn't seemed to mind the rumble, but shes gets to drive our 97 Chrysler Town & Country #ad

These stories are great, I have only had my set-up for about four days now, and have to admit I won't open the muffler box until the "man" makes me or of course a wo-man does. Less power or not, it sounds so good. The best part is my powerstroke friend gets to enjoy it when we ride around #ad
.

jaynes, I don't know the technical jargon for the cool turbo noise (check that box, I love it too! #ad
) but IMO, this sound change happens when the pressure differential changes i. e. your truck is under power and the engine is driving the turbo and then when you let off the gas, the turbo is spinning at the speed relative to the engine rpm with zero boost my . 02 cents. #ad

Thanks Miller, that makes sense. So what about the cops? Would the po's pull me over if I put dual stacks on my truck with no muffler? I was wondering if they would make a hassel of it.

The stack setup on my truck couldn't have cost more than $300 CDN. The exhaust is done right. Flexible tubing is used to couple the factory exhaust under the cab to the middle of a 6" X 6" square tubing divider that runs across the front of the box. It is capped on each end. There are some 4. 5" pipes welded onto this which the stacks clamp onto.

The exhaust comes out evenely and sounds much like a semi. The truck is no louder at idle and with the windows up is not loud at all. Open up the back slider and you get the Cummins Growl... No muffler is used or needed. I live in a large city and haven't raised any Copper's eyebrows yet - pretty much everyone else seems to have 'stack envy' judging by some of the looks the truck garners...

It's pretty cool on a cold day to see the 2 streams of smoke in the rear veiw.

Email me if you want me to send you a couple JPGs of this setup.

CrewCabDiesel,

I had the same effect with a 3" straight pipe. I was going through a little town down by Indianapolis and was towing a tractor (10,000 lbs). I came off a stop light and stomped it. The first two cars I went by started beepeing and honking as the alarms went off. I thought it was really cool, but Dad was a little bit ticked and he rolled the passenger side window back up. He was mumbling something about going deaf. Oh well, lots of fun having big, loud toys.

jaynes, I got my pipes for $80/each. All they are is a replacement stack for a rig. Mine are 5"X48". I've turned a few officers heads but never been stopped... . yet.
