I was recently told that if you run a straight pipe that you will lose a large amount of power, and there is a possibility of damaging your valves... Is there any truth to this !

the damaged valves comes from the hypothesis that when you turn your truck off, there will be a rush of cold air going up your tail-pipe (the trucks). When this cold air hits the hot exhaust valve, it can warp or crack it. I personally have never seen it or worried about it. Think of how much pipe and turbo that air has to go past. it's plenty warm.

has anyone else heard the same ?

Not going to happen

Not going to happen. You have, what 16' or more, of hot exhaust to soak up any cold air entering thru the pipe.

We run about 2' of exhaust pipe per cylinder on our race car, and after a 6 second 1/4 blast :D , those valves are around 1200 degs. . No valve problems from cool air up the pipes.

Not a problem if you're sure to remove the muffler bearings with the muffler. This will increase the net friction coefficient of the exhaust gas system and greatly decrease the retrograde movement of atmospheric gases into the system ;)

I've heard of this happening once, the guy had a 24 valve and dumped the exhaust right below his cab. I also heard he had the truck bought for him and new nothing about how to treat the Cummins engine. I think he was probably doing something pretty weird to the poor truck.

DUH,,,,,,,,,,,,

Oh come on Kurt,

Even someone with no mechanical background knows that. If ya leave the muffler bearings in and remove the muffler, there will be no baffle races for the bearings to ride on. SHEESH:rolleyes: :p

I thought I had a busted valve but the muffler bearings went out in my wobble box so that would not let my wiggle stick do it's thing along with the carbasifelator not getting enought air by-pass

With all this Guestimating (Technical Term) I believe it's a interference thing between the Machinist Punch and the lack of Relative Bearing Grease (Navy guys will understand) that causes the problem. I think some Follopian (sp?) tube will corrrect the problem.
