Am I the only one who finds it really annoying when you hear someone with a straight exhaust system on their truck? YES!Does anyone think that the horrible droning noise being produced by their truck sounds good? YES!A six cylinder Cummins emits the same drone sound as a six cylinder gasser (if you have a straight pipe). WRONG!

It's amazing how you can kill the droning six cylinder sound and make a Cummins sound more like a V-8 God forbid!!!!with a simple flow through open chamber style muffler. Every time I hear someone with a straight pipe it always seems to be the type of people who like to rev their engine for all to hear. I just want to stop and try to talk some sense into some of these people. It embarrasses me when I see one of my fellow Cummins owners running around driving a truck that sounds like a wet vac on steroids.

This reminds me of the weenie across the street from me that told me my fireworks were to loud and unsafe. :-laf

The only people that have commented on the sound of my 5" strait pipe were complimentary.

Wana hear Music? Try a 6 lane underpass with the Edge on 5X5 at 2200RPM. SUUUHHWWHHEEET!!!!!

BTW. Steve, My stripes are STILL there!

The few times I've heard stacks it sounded reasonable. I realize it's one thing to hear stacks from a distance and another thing to have them right behind your head for long trips.

The few trucks I've heard with unknown straight pipe configurations out the back had resonance issues that started just over idle and never went away in the upper rpm range. The trucks were resonating so badly that it over powered the bold deep exhaust sound the Cummins engine was trying to produce. The resonate vibrations were basically polluting the true sweet sound of the Cummins. I like my truck to roar on command not drone.

it's all in the exhaust configuration and how they're mounted.

I always use very stiff exhaust hangers (rubber isolated) and weld all connections. then a short run of flex pipe between the downpipe and the rest of the system to furthur isolate pipe vibration and resonance and prevent cracking the turbine housing or exhaust manifold.

Well I want to put my 2 cents into this. Guess first I will let you know I have tried about every exhaust out there, being I install them. To each his own with exhaust, and everyone is different. To come on here wondering why we have louder than what you think we should have is really opening up a can of worms... ... ... but hey some guys like that conterversy.

Anyway, stacks are very loud in cab unless as mentioned before using a them in a twin setup, then they get real nice and quiet, well as quiet as I would want. I personaly do not like to run straight pipe, because I have in the past with my own truck, drone in the cab at 75mph was bad, that I will agree, but it only happened at 73 to 78mph. So now I have another 5 inch with a little muffler and I like the way it sounds. I can talk in my cab, listen to the radio with out blasting away the neighbors, and it is not too bad on the outside from listening to it pull away when the wife drives it.

Now I agree that under the bridges or long tunnels or while the exhaust is pointing towards a wall I am guilty of letting the pipe roar... ... ..... I personaly enjoy the sound, this does not mean that you have to like it, in fact when I pass a car I let it rip too, I love the sound that is gives off of sheet metal, besides much better than flashing your lights, like they are paying attention... ... . So why do you think I or anyone else should conform to what you want in life? This post just really does not make any sense as too why you first want things quiet and then stacks are OK, then you change tune again talking only of drone. Anyway here is a link too the way my truck sounds now, and BTW I can hear my turbo over the pipe all the time in the cab... . and that is the way I like it. My truck letting the 5" with muffler bark a little!! Now mind you it only makes that noise when I have the charger lit off and the flame is coming through... ... ... ... lol.
