There are some good pics of a turbo with it removed and with it installed on that dodgeram.org site. I can't remember what the web address was but I am sure someone will chime in a button to click.
thanks for the pic bmoeller, i thought my silencer ring was removed, turns out from the picture it is not. lol. ill take care of that first think tommorw morning.
Suddenly letting off the accelerator is only one half of stalling the turbo, the other half is a corresponding rapid drop in engine revs, which has a similar effect to slamming a gasser's throttle butterfly shut (this is why they fit turbo gassers with blow off valves, to prevent sudden turbo destruction).
Because the diesel's intake is always open, letting off of the go pedal, only stops the fuel, so the unused boost is simply pumped out by the freewheeling engine as it starts decelerating.
However, in certain driving conditions, if the engine is rapidly brought down from high rpms to idle or even stalled, it can't pump the high boost pressure in the system quickly enough, which can cause serious turbo damage.
I observed this firsthand, when my buddy's Ford PS got stuck in the snow and he was rocking it back and forth - the turbo barking was really beginning to sound expensive!
How loud is the exhaust with straight pipes? I noticed that the weld on my cat was cracked yesterday. It would not be too much work to cut it and the muffler out and replace with straight pipe...
Just want to know if I'll be getting the law after me...
There is nothing in the world better that a turned up 12 valve with straight exhaust and the absence of a silencer ring,,,,,, except maybe the sound of one with all of the above and the air box removed and one of the BIG HONKIN AIR FILTERS
That the next Mod for me,,,,,, going to be hard to say good by the the K&N
yeah i was not impressed with the K&N drop in filter i got at advance auto..... i couldnt even tell a difference to be quite honest..... im making my way over to NAPA soon to get a BHAF.
onstottc, instead of going thru all that trouble... you outta just get a 4" turbo back exhaust... . you'll illeminate the cat, and factory muffler all at one time..... im not sure there are emissions on diesels... . there are none in PA... not yet anyway
