I noticed that my cat was cracked a few months ago, so I went to an exhaust shop and had 5. 5 feet of 3" exhaust tubing swaged and installed it this weekend. The pipe was about 2 inches long, but I had them swage fairly deep so I was able to make everything fit.

The results are impressive-- Exhaust temps are lower and the turbo cools down really fast after a drive. Acceleration seems a little faster and I also notice that boost pressure has been reduced.

The sound is nice-- Been driving with the windows down to hear it. :D

Good to hear you like a straight pipe.

I tried a straight pipe and after a few weeks the noise got to me. Tried an assortment of piping and muffler options before going with a full 4" exhaust with stright muffler. I have another muffler to add in hopes of eliminating the drone. I like the thrum of a diesel exhaust, just not the annoying parts.

I've got straight 5" exhaust... lots of nice sounds... I've also cancelled out 95% of the "annoying parts"

there IS a way to run straight pipe without all the interior resonance!!

I think mine might run quieter because I used thick tubing. It seems to be quite , bit thicker than other tubing I've seen. 16 gauge?

probably 14 gauge... and yes, I think that's part of why straight piping w/ factory exhaust doesn't resonate as bad as aftermarket systems... the stock pipe is THICK!!

It might be... The new section of pipe I used was thicker thann the factory pipe. Now I need to figure out what to do with that muffler and cat. The assembly is over 5 feet tall.
