Performance wise and sound wise yes. The four inch in my opinion sounds better and will flow better.

That is what I figured would be the case. I really like the sound of my '06 with straight pipe. Probably too loud for some, and, thankfully, I don't have a complainer for a wifeOo. She actually likes how the truck sounds. :)

I am going to have to make a trip in my '98 to the big city, since we don't have a muffler shop here that can bend 4" pipe. I know the 12valve won't sound like the '06, but I think it will sound better than it does with the 3" pipe.

why not just buy a 4" kit for under $300 and install it yourself?

This would be the easiest JHenry. Unless you've got the pipe already, it took me about an hour and a half to put it on (rusted clamps suck) but after I got the old exhaust off the new one slipped on very easily.

most kits come with enough pipe to run straight pipe. if not, most places will sell you a muffler delete pipe. I would call Rip at sourceautomotive. biz, he'll fix you up.

Most places don't discount the price enough when you delete the muffler from the kit. I would suggest going ahead and buying the muffler just in case. You can always sell it to a local 3rd gen guy wanting a cheap upgrade

Jerry Jardine sells straight pipe systems along with several others on Ebay. I've seen these for $250-$300. I think Rip Rook has them also.
