What are your opinions on straight pipe on the 04. 5+? I already got rid of the CAT but the truck still sounds sickly, unlike my 2000 Cummins did. Will the ANSA aluminized 4" system from Geno's take care of this or should I straight pipe it?
I have the Silverline 4" Turbo back system. I installed it at first as a straight pipe and didnt really care for the drone at 1900-2200. However it was only an issue while towing.
It did however sound awesome when empty and was tolerable. But I just couldnt hang on the long hauls during the summer when I hit the road.
I wound up installing the muff that came with the system. It's really nice.
I ran my 04. 5 straight for a while. Too loud for me. Instead of buying another muffler, I put the cat back in. I think it still has straight pipe sound but knocked down a few db's.
Haven't had any loss in power or mileage because of cat.
Another option would be the Rokk Tech Silent Might muffler. I have my cat in place and with the Silent Might, it sounds good. It has the straight pipe sound-only quieter, and NO DRONE. I'd like to hear how it sounds without the cat, but I'm happy with it the way it is.
I have the delete pipe and it has a drone like nobody's business. Makes me smile, but since its technically not legal, I might go with a MBRP exhaust or similar set up.
I have a 4" Silverline with the muffler and the cat in place. For me, it gives me just enough of the sound I was looking for without any of the drone. I personally don't care for the sound in the cab without both in place.
I have the Silverline 304 Stainless system in mine with no cat... really havent experineced any drone yet, about the most I've towed since installing it is a stock trailer with 3 horses. . The horses haven't complained...
I will agree with all above. I have the Geno's muffler delete kit and decided to keep the cat installed rather than running a straight pipe all the way back. I love the sound. With the cat still on there it gives it just the right sound. Not too loud but not too quiet either. I would highly recommend doing this mod.
