Look at my sig for the specifics. I am looking to remove the cat. (short term, of course) and would like to know what you used to replaced it with. The DodgeRam page has a converter test pipe part number listed (52109170AB). Has anyone used this piece? I am looking for some more noise, power still stock. If you used a straight piece of pipe, what diameter and length? Who has tried this and thought it was too loud? Thanks in advance for the excellent help. Keep up the good work!

I've used both the Dodge test pipe and straight pipe from Napa. Six of one half dozen of another except that the Napa pipe is about one third the price. Don't remember the numbers offhand, you'll have to climb under there. Just measure the diameter of the pipe going into muffler and the pipe going into the cat, buy the correct length of the larger size pipe, a reducer from the large pipe to the cat intake size pipe and three clamps. It's been awhile since I've done one but it cost $22 for all the parts from Napa.

I removed the cat last week. The muffler was still attached. I am doing test on my EGT's.

So far, I am ok with the sound. Some complain that the exhaust resonates at 2000 RPM.

I did the work myself. You need about six feet of pipe, to replace cat and muffler. I used the rear muffler hanger to hold the pipe up. I cut the hanger off the muffler with a 4-inch grinder. Welded it with 6011 stick. The pipe was straight, did not need the bends in GENO's muffler replacement pipe.

The pipe cost about $3. 50 per foot from amuffler shop.

What was done on mine was 3" pipe the same length as the cat/muffler flared at one end to fit over the pipe coming off the turbo, and then placed into the tailpipe section that is already flared. Used the original clamps and I was ready to roll! :D

You may need to heat up the ends where the cat/muffler pipe fit on, I know mine did.

As for the sound, is there such a thing as too loud? ;)

Hope this helps.

straight pipe

ronco,

I took off my cat. I used a large bar to start pounding a hole in both ends. Eventually it breaks thru, it doesn't take long. I, also hammered the plate off at the start of the muffler. I reinstalled it all back on the truck. The preformance was now better & the noise was not much different. Best of all, it still looks stock. The cost was $0. 00. Something to think about?

I used 64" of 3" or 3. 5" pipe (whatever the stock diameter is) flared on the ends. It's straight. Also it replaced both the muffler and the cat. I have a quad cab longbed, if you have the same I would recommend getting 63". I gave myself a bit of "wiggle room" and it ended up being a hair too long, but it did still fit.
