Loud Pipes Save Lives

Thanks for the offer Dave, I gotta get rid of this POS flowmaster anyways so I will go straight piped and see what its like. If I don't like it I will start looking at mufflers.



Someone posted about a flowmaster bieng loud... NOT THIS ONE. I looked under the truck to make sure they changed it when I had it installed. Sounds like stock. If I roll the window down and hammer down with a heavy trailer it will make SOME noise not much at all. If someone wants it, its coming off this weekend most likely... $30 plus shiiping and its yours.



Shooter, what mufflers do you you have on your car?? The Borla Header mufflers are quite but not quiter than the rattle of a good ole 24V motor

Tuned muffler

I put a stright pipe on about two weeks ago, I liked to hear the turbo but thought the bark was a bit loud, wife and cops did to. I put a Dynomax Ultra flow #17223, 3'' id, with a 4'' core, 6'' round, 24'' long. I cut the stright pipe off about 6'' from tail pipe pipe slid the muffler on so the pipe was most of the way through the muffler, tightened the clamp just so it would stay on grabed a 9/16 scocket took the truck out on the road to see how it sounded. Adjusted the muffler back and forth (more or less pipe in the muffler) until I got it to sound like I wanted went back to the shop cut the pipe off put the tail pipe on, took a 6'' muffler clamp around the muffler, welded some 3/8 rod to it and bent them to fit the factory muffler hangers. Did this Tuesday night and have had 5 or 6 people comment on how good it sounds.

I think so... the thing is HUGE though. It came out of a american thunder kit for a chevy truck. I got it from a friend of mine just to try out. The HP picked up a little via SOP but its to quite IMO.

My 2 cents

I tried the straight pipe deal my self and was not very satisfied with it. It sounded ok inside the truck. But following behind with someone else driving, it sounded like a six cylinder Maverick with no muffler. So I ordered a 4 inch Dynomax Round Welded Race Muffler Like I run on my 69 Z28 Street Car. I still have 3 inch pipe, but wanted a 4 inch muffler if I ever decide to change to 4 inch pipe all the way through. So I also ordered reducers for each end of the muffler so it would fit to the 3 inch pipe. The truck sounds so much better now. I wouldn't change a thing about it if I could. One thing I didn't like about the straight pipe was the fact that the truck sounded and felt like it had lost power. It was due to the fact that the louder exhaust noise made the junk stock converter sound like it had even more slippage in it. The truck made alot of noise and wasn't going anywhere. The Dynomax is almost as quite as stock woth normal driving, but has a very deep sound when you throw down on the loud pedal. I love it! Just in case anyone is interested, The part # of the muffler is 17225 (0289-17225 from Jegs). The reducers are from Jegs and I think they are made by Hooker. This is the Jegs part # for them (there are 2 reducers per box) 0520-11138. Chris

Mine is very short flat and small. Its actually a 4. 5 inch. Sound like the one you got is very different.

Just to update my original post. I drove a 2K miles this week, with half of it pulling a hay baler at 65 to 70 MPH. I get a little bit of resonance at about 70 unloaded, but nothing that I CAN"T HANDLE. I think that sound and acceptable noise is such an individual prefrence. I can not stand to here tire whine, but love the turbo and engine sound. Some people can not stand the sound of deisel trucks. I am for now very happy with my Geno's ME kit.
