straight 4" from the turbo to the bed, straight 5" from there to the tip... was a little rowdy inside till I lined the interior with lead sheet, welded all the pipe connections, and added more hangers. the hangers I use don't allow the pipe to move very much at all, and I have a length of flex pipe from the downpipe to where the 5" starts (used to have stacks, so I had the flex pipe left over)

I believe that the firm hangers act in a similar fashion to welding or clamping angle iron to the pipe to reduce resonance... the hangers and welding all the connections on the 5" pipe where I used to have band clamps (three connections) made almost as much difference as the lead sheet!!!

before the lead sheet, the resonance was PAINFUL... then it wasn't TOO bad, but it could get annoying on long trips... with the extra hangers and welded connections, it sounds like it did with a muffler on the inside, but OUTSIDE it sounds SICK!!!

i went straight piped yesterday. is it possible that egt's can go up by doing this? i have not towed yet,but on the freeway it appears the temps are climbing faster and 100 degrees hotter than before. going to be adding afe's stage 2 tomorrow and piers pdrhx-35 12cm as soon as they are off back order. ken

I love my straight pipe, bought the truck with it, not loud in truck at all, however the droning outside causes my dog to poo in the bed, he never did this before I got the Dodge so I figure it must be the exhaust. :D

ROTFLMAO :D Thats good.

I have had my truck straight piped for 3 years now and love it.

I have no problem with any in cab noise. I am now debating to go with a straight 4'' or if I should go with duel stacks.

I love the straight pipe sound, my dog can here me three blocks away. :D :D

Can't speak for anyone else, but when I took my muffler off (still had resonator) it was so loud at highway speeds I could not use my cell phone. I have to show up at customers homes so a loud truck won't do (otherwise I might have lived with it). I went with a Magnaflow 4", sounds great, and I've picked up 1. 5 mpg.

I put on my stacks the other day and while they were going on my muffler just fell off and i just could not seem to get it back on o well. It sounds awsome. Wife isnt very impresed and i think my neighbors will hate me ( I leave at 4 am for work). I will never have a muffler agen.

Eh???? Can't hear ya...

"I cannot hear mine in the cab,but my neighbors hate me "

"No it is not that loud, they just know when I amcoming home"

Mine hate me too, but I think they like the truck. :{

No muffler, no resonator, no drone. Loud as loud can be.

Blows small children and pets off sidewalks everywhere.

Perfectly normal inside the cab with the windows up.

that is the best story i ever heard...

I want to go strait pipe but my neighbors already complain about me coming home on the weekends at 2 or 3 in the morning, it wakes everyone up, cant imagine how nice id sound strait through though :)

And doesn't water get into your stacks when it rains ???

Ive always wondered about that

yeah, soot shower is a pain... turnout stacks help... you can also drill a couple small holes at the lowest point in the exhaust to allow water to drain.

they sound sweet though... I miss mine...

Hmm... So they do get water in them. The hole thing would fix that though. Some exhaust tips have a drain hole, and with a diesel I guess its not like youd hear the sound of air coming through it, being as loud as it is :p

Does anyone know where I can order a 5" or 6" SS or chrome turn out exhaust tip for my truck I cant find any. I have a 4" turn down right now looks small on my truck though.

yeah, they get water in them... my white truck was always covered in soot...

even when I'd go to wash it, water mist would find its way into the truck and as soon as I'd start it up, soot everywhere! LOL!

I ALMOST put them back on last week, but I made some changes to my exhaust and now it doesn't resonate inside bad at all... sounds KILLER outside though!

Due to my lack of a welder. I orderd stacks from Rob at Michigan deisel. He is on here and they are self draining, I got turn outs and have had no water at all coming out on start up. Its been rainign here for two or three days.

I just put a resonator back on today in the stock position and the dreaded drone is almost gone! In cab noise is really close to stock levels and outside is considerably lower. My EGT's didn't seem to change much maybe up 25F but not too sure about that. From my experience, leave the resonator on if you wana straightpipe!!:D :D

a resonator does not a straightpipe make unfortunately... there's just no other sound like it...

the key to running a straightpipe without painful resonance is some good sound deadening and doing what you can to prevent the exhaust pipe from vibrating...

when I first put my straightpipe on, the resonance at 2500 would literally split your eardrums... it HURT!!! :(

now, after some sound deadening in the cab and some good firm exhaust hangers, it's no big deal... inside it sounds like it did with a 7x24" muffler on it before I did the sound deadener and hangers! (outside it sounds like pure evil  )

SO... . I guess fast food drive up is out of the question... ?

J/k not like you can order without turning the thing off anyway, I eat alot of fast food, and I go through the drive through 99% of the time and having to turn off the truck really is starting to pi$$ me off!!! I just went to sconecutter 2 minutes ago thats why imtalking about it :p

Dont people yell at you and flip you off at stop lights? I mean I like having a loud roar coming from my vehicles as much as the next car nut, but it seems if your own exhaust is splitting your eardrums from inside the cab, I feel yorry for anyone outside the truck... Theyd all be like --->
