Ok, last month it was an injection pump. Now it appears that I just blew the brake line on the rail next to the fuel tank. Spongy pedal and fluid dripping off the tank. How bad is it to replace the line? Am I better off to limp it to a local brake shop in the morning? 99 2500 Quad cab 4x4, 150,000 miles.

How far to brake shop? If a mile or two, top off brake fluid, turn on emergency flashers and drive 24 mph. You have a dual system and the fronts should work, but the handling characteristics w/out rear brakes are easy to lose control. If farther, do it your self or get a tow.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... ... the Master Cylinder reservoir is divided once the fluid gets about half way down, front and rear. I don't think you'd ever run completely out of brakes if you lose a hose. Just the front or the rear but not both.

I had this happen on my 94 truck. It seems the tubing vibrates/rubs on the frame and after 240,000 miles it should be replaced, or at least inspected. Not sure if wrapping the tubeing in a plastic cover would stop this problem.

Did mine in the driveway. Was able to disconnect the front and rear line connections and fish out the old line from the front. Used old line as a guide to bend new, fished it back in an connected the line nuts. Hard par was getting the line back into the mount/clamps on the frame. Actually would have been easier to remove the fuel tank.
