This morning I went through the normal routine of starting my truck. I have noticed the "wait to start" light has been staying on a little longer since the summer time.

As usual, the truck bellows white smoke and has a real rough idle for about 20 seconds. It then clears up and will idle around 750rpm.

After about a couple of minutes my trucks idle climbed to 1000rpm's and stayed there. I was in the garage when this took place. It stayed there for a few minutes and then it dropped back to 750 rpm.

Does this sound like the high idle feature? I did not have this feature enabled at the dealer but had the flash for the poor fuel mileage.

Being that this was the first time this happened I am a bit concerned. Is this normal or should I have it checked out?

Thanks in Advance

Don't worry, this is normal. I don't know the exact temp it takes place at, but if the intake air is at a certain temp or less it triggers the fast idle. I've noticed mine does it around 28 degrees. Don't confuse this with the high idle feature that can be enabled on the auto trans trucks, that one is operated with the CC buttons. Us guys with the 6 shooters can't have that option so I'm thankful for the 1000rpm when it's cold, really helps to get some luke warm air out of the vents. As a side note, even if your truck is at full operating temp (190-200 degs. ) the 1000rpm fast idle will still come on if parked and idleing for more than 3 minutes (I timed it).
