Hello all,

I did a search here and did not find anything that was like this:

Had a strange thing happen tonight, I started up the truck and turned on the drivers map light, the truck had been setting for about an hour so it was not stone cold but it was not up to operating temp and I think the grid heaters were cycling on and off, every time the grids came on the map light would go out, then when they shut off the map light would come back on. This happen 5 or 6 times then after what I think was grids cycling stopped, the map light stayed on. I turned on the dome lights with headlight switch and they came on and stayed on through this whole thing, it was only the map light that went on and off.

Anyone here ever had this problem? I know a bad ground can do some strange things, but this is the only thing it seems to affect.

Thanks for any help you might have.

I agree it sounds like a grounding problem. Other then that, maybe a loose bulb or a loose filament in the bulb.

The heater grids really drag the whole electrical system down, but I've never heard of just that one map light going out like that.

Since it's so isolated, it makes me want to blame that one light. But I think you need more experimentation. Next time you start it up and the grids are going to cycle, turn on both map lights and see what happens.
