Could this be one reason to just use a pump to pump out old fluid and pump in new? I had to do an early change and did the pump method. I will pull the cover and inspect the teeth just before warranty is up. I would imagine if i had an issue i would be more likely to either feel it while driving or be alerted to a possible issue with UOA. This is the first HD truck that has specifically called for cover removal that I have had. My plan is to swap fluid every 30,000 in the rear and front and call it done.

If you use the OE fluid it will be most likely trashed with that many miles. Look at your manual.

Well here is my OE fluid at 8811 miles. #ad

It was grabbing and binding so much when turning with hot fluid that #ad
i thought i had broken the gears. I went with two quarts of Amsoil 75w90 because i had it and two quarts of Valvoline synthetic 75w140 to thicken it up. It has not chattered anymore and i am at 23,000. I do need to look at the manual for the schedule.

Don't be concerned about the color of the factory fill. Ram has stated it will appear lighter in color due to the gear marking compound (grease) used at the factory to check the gear pattern.

Jared I would suggest using AMZ/OIL Severe gear 75-110 if you tow if not 75-90.

Look at your report the viscosity is nearly out of spec and the flashpoint is! That is with only 8,800 miles on the GL. Pathetic IMHO for OE fluid.

My next fill will be Amsoil 75w90 straight. I still have plenty of it on hand. My truck was chattering and binding so bad while turning hot that it was amazing. I only went thicker because i thought it might help. The new fluid has been great so far. I sent my old fluid in to make sure it was not contaminated. My front diff is still factory and looks and smells fine so will get swapped out per the maintenance interval. I have had many many Dodge/ Ram Cummins trucks along with some Duramax LML trucks and have never seen factory fluid or any fluid come out looking like mine did. Whatever the factory is doing or using did not work for me. That fluid in the photo not only had 8811 miles but of those maybe 500 were towing 7500 pounds.
