I changed my oil yesterday and noticed a small amount of oil on the bottom of my power steering pump. I am 99% sure it is oil and not PS fluid. If I understand my big orange book correctly, the PS pump is cooled by oil. Again, it was getting dark and I did not dig very deep into it, but that appears to be the source. It is not my breather tube as I have already extended that.

What would have gone wrong here and have others had same problem? I have 65K miles; is it under warranty? How difficult and expensive is it to replace? I prefer to do my work myself.

Also, is this something that is going to leave me on the side of the road anytime soon? I assume it is just a small problem as I have not even seen a drip in my driveway yet. But it is definitely there and is not right.

Thanks in advance for the replies. This board has more than paid for itself with the advice I have gotten the last 2 years.

HGD:

Chances are it's not the PS pump but the vacuum pump. It is cooled by engine oil. The leak is between the two pumps. A new seal kit and a little gasket maker will fix the problem.
