97 12 valve DRW auto. I removed belt suspecting idler tensioner, not so. Ran engine sans belt & noise stil there, kind of a screching noise. Could not pin it down with a stethascope. Using a heater hose to ear dosent help. My ears point to exaust manifold area near front of engine. Could KDP pin have fell out & be grinding on timing gear? Front case looks ok- no oil leaks. This has me stumped. Would appreciate some advice. Thanks BOB ALLER

If you haven't fixed the kdp then it seems like a good reason to at least take a look and get it done. $130. 00 give or take in seals plus your time is a cheap insurance policy. On the cummins data base they show a picture of the dowel pin with the corner ground off of it, then a broken gear case. This could be you if not for your keen hearing. Don't forget the H20 pump is in that area as well. J

TST Products has a good price on the KDP kit with instructions. As far as the noise, with no belt that really narrows alot of things down with bearings, etc. on the accessories. Like mentioned above maybe the turbo? Try taking off the intake hose and see if it gets louder.

I puled hose off turbo and listened with a heater hose, quiet. Please see my update under engines % transmisions. Thanks BOB ALLER
