about a second after i started my truck this morning, what i guess would be the transmission sounded like it "jumped into gear"... the sound was like when the stick is not all the way in place when you let the clutch out... . you will hav to forgive my ignorane but i have no mechanical knowledge what so ever

any ideas?

I'm guessing the truck did not lunge like it had slipped into gear. Mine has done that a few times... ... only after I try to slip the transmission into reverse (when it won't go with just the clutch depressed) by lightly letting out the clutch a little to help it in. Sounds awful, but so far no harm done, I hope #ad
I seriously wouldn't worry about it unless it continues. Several 6 speeds have failed for one reason or another. Back to the dealer if it continues. Good luck!

Sometimes mine will make a sound similar to what you have described. Mine does it when I switch on the A/C.

FF1381, Two things, if the AC was on it may have been the AC clutch trying to but not being able to engage. Heard a Ford do it once and it was pretty loud. Second, could it be the starter solenoid didn't completely disengage the gear?
