I have a 1998 12v auto quad cab 4x4. When the truck is cold I have a strange noise (almost sounds like a bad belt but not screechy just rhythmic in nature) from the engine compartment when accelerating. If I let up on the go pedal the sound stops and then it starts again when I press the pedal down again. After I drive about 2 to 3 miles the noise stops and the truck runs quietly. Also have experienced increased lag time with the speed control form the time I set it until the time it will maintain the set speed. Wonder if the two are related. thanks for any ideas... .

The noise that you are hearing is the Cooling Fan. When the engine sits, the Fluid in the Viscous Hub settles to the bottom of the hub and locks up the hub. So when you start out the fan is turning at engine RPM and you are hearing the air noise. When you let up on the go pedal the fan slows down and the noise goes away.
