Slide in pop up camper

FLASH: 2001 Artic Fox Slide in Camper

Just returned from a trip to Yellowstone. While staying in West Yellowstone I saw a one ton with two motorcycles in bed pulling a 5th wheel. He was bumper pulling a tandem axel trailer with 5th wheel hitch mounted on it. He left early next morning and I didn't get to talk to him. My question would have been: how do you back this thing? He got a pull through that night.

I've seen (somewhere online) devices that would essentially allow someone with a pull behind hitch tow a 5ver or a gooseneck, but I don't know who made them or anything. Interesting thought about backing up.

Same principle of pulling doubles (or tripples) behind a semi. The axle with the 5th wheel hitch is called a dolly or a converter dolly. They are a bear to back up, but it can be done if you are straight to start out with.

I watched a driver practicing backing doubles at a quiet factory one night, asked him about it, and he said the old hand that gave him the idea of practicing, was able to pull in to a factory with doubles, back both up to a dock, drop the back one and the dolly, and back the front trailer into the dock next to it. Otherwise, you drop the trailer, pull the dolly out and drop it, then drop the front trailer and go back and get the rear trailer to put it into a dock.
