Strange sound with cruise control

Hello all,

I heard a strange sound while engaging the cruise today. It is something like an "rrrrrrrrrrr" sound coming from the engine compartment, and did it when I first engaged cruise, and intermittently while it was on. I've never noticed it before, but it was very quiet this morning.



I am wondering if anyone can tell me what this sound might be and why. Is it normal? I'd appreciate any feedback.

Being an auto, could be the vacuum cruise module actuator thingy has developed a leak... sorry, I can't remember the name of it, I don't have one because of the manual trans. They are known to fail and cause cruise issues...
