Military Power Wagon in Houston Chronicle

Changed my fuel filter last weekend and found some stuff in the bottom of the housing. It looks almost like really fine coffee grounds, black in color, and when shaken turns the fuel black. Is it algie? Changed the filter because it was not starting well. It had been about 8k miles since the last change. Starts fine now ... just wondering. .

Sound like you got a load of dirty fuel.

Did you buy it where you usually fuel up?

You might want to check the filter canister again after a couple of days to see if it's still coming from the current tank of fuel.

Most members who have experienced Alge in fuel describe it as looking like snot.

I fill up at three different stations depending on where i am. They are all Pacific Prides. The last one i filled at before the problem was one of the most used by trucks arround here. ???? Never had dirty fuel... I did have water in the fuel before but not this!

Also monitor your F/P carefully, if you see a drop than you may want to pull the L/P and clean the inlet screan for other chunks, some have reported pieces of plastic from the fuel tank in there, kinda like they drilled a hole in the tank and left the tailings behind

really, this junk is usually dabree from the float from rubbing on top of the tank. if you find this stuff, small and dark pieces, then clean the micro screen in the lift pump. do you 24v'rs have the micro screen? thats what went a way when my fuel Gage went hay wire. is there a brass float out there?

just my penny's worth

Check your fuel pressure, those grinding looking things might be parts of your lift pump. I have seen this happen at work and it does happen to those who run until the fuel light comes on, but more then likely those are the tell tale signs of lift pump probs. It is no big deal to change the lift pump if you have to :) I see these same particles show up in the signature 600 engines in the fuel screen.

Hope this helps,

Russell
