Had a strange experience with a set of wheel chocks on our Arizona trip. I made up some wheel chocks by cutting a 20 inch long 4 x 4 into at an angle to make two chocks, then drilled a hole through each and tied them together with about 30 inches of 1/4" poly rope. I have carried two sets of them in the back of my truck when towing the fiver for years(I have a fiver tail gate)
While driving along near Ajo Az. , I glanced in the rear view mirror and blue smoke was boiling up from the driver side trailer tires. I pulled over immediately and ran back expecting a fire and by the time I got back there the smoke was gone. I crawled under the trailer and found one wheel chock stuck between the tire sidewall and the spring shackle! The tire sidewall was worn significantly, but no cord showing, and the chock was worn in at least 1/4 " .
I limped on 40 miles to our next stop where I mounted the spare and have been wondering how safe that damaged tire is for use as a spare?
Allways thought 4 x 4 chocks too heavy to blow out of the back of the truck, and they did not for years and at least 30K miles of towing, but now they will travel in a compartment.
