Heavy-duty rear hitch

Traveling north on hwy 15 north of LasVegas. Passed a 5th wheel that had a 2 axle dolly setup with toolboxes This was hooked to a bumper pull type hitch on an older Ford with a camper shell. The dolly setup would be like the ones that truckers use to pull doubles except smaller wheels. Anybody ever see this setup before?

I saw those advertised in one of the auto trader magazines. It was hooked up behind an Excursion. Pretty goofy looking, and maybe a bit scary. Seems like trading for a travel trailer would make more sense.

look at hitch-buddy.com. is it one of those? there is a thread about it on the forums here. i cant believe it myself. mark

I've seen a similar set a few years ago. It was a 2 axle dolly with about a 4 or 5 foot drawbar hooked to the truck's frame hitch. The fifth wheel hitch stuck up enough to make the trailer level. Looked to me to be about a 28 or 30 foot fifth wheel. They had their Harley in the truck's box.

I once saw photos of a cadilac two door sedan hooked up to a fiver. There were brackets that came out from under each side of the car just behind the doors on each side and a third came out under the center of the trunk. These three brackets looped up and met above the top of the car and suported the fiver hitch. I doubt the inventer ever sold any.

Actually, I encountered these photos in an arson trial. The "inventer,s" insurance co. sued to cancel a fire ins. policy claiming the guy torched his home to get money to continue trying to develope and sell this set up.

In the course of the trial I became convinced the ins. co. was right. Everything about the fire was suspicious as could be.

There is an older horse trailer set up like that, with a dolly, that runs around the Las Vegas area, an occasional customer of mine. I've loaded it with hay cubes a few times.

I just looked up www.hitch-buddy.com and that look just dangerous. If you are going to tow something that big, get the right vehicle to pull it, if not, you can always get a nice tag-along.

The inventor must have sold at least one of these. I worked in York during the early 70's and there was a full sized Chevy four door sedan equipped with a similar hitch and fifth wheel TT near my place of employment. I think it's the only one I've ever seen.

During the National Western Stock Show here in Denver, I saw one. Gooseneck horse trailer (25'?) with dolly and another 20' GN horse trailer in tow.

Thought it was a bit extreme, then I saw one of the horses sticking it's head out one of the windows on the forward trailer like a dog would. :--)

I watched the video and must say it looked impressive. That would allow me to throw the motorcycle in the trucks bed and still tow the 5'ver. Probably would cost less than buying a new toy toter 5'ver.
