OK... I am sure I read somplace but cant seem to find with a search. will the Stratapore oil filters for the 24v fit the 12 valve? I dont see any reason why they wont, and are they really better and if so what makes them better?Oo. . . simple minds need to know! :-laf . these new smily icons make me laugh! Jim

I dunno if there is anyway we can tell if a filter is better or not. I use the Stratapore in my '95 with the assumption that the latest in technology from Fleetguard should be the best. The price is ok and convenient at the local Peterbilt shop.

The 3894 Stratapore can be used on the 12v no problem.



As far as it being better, it is. I asked Fleetguard the difference between the Stratapore and the regular filters. The Stratapore has filters to a smaller micron rating at a higher efficiency. Sorry, I don't remember the specs now.

Fleetguard filters

The Fleetguard strat-3894 is the best filter for the CTD that Fleetguard makes. The F/G filters are rated good,better,and best. I got the phone # from Fleetguards web site and called them,I use the 3894 on my truck.

My local Cummins branch is standardizing on Stratapore oil filters for Dodge "B" series engines. The parts guy got a notice about a month back stating the filters will interchange. They sell me Stratapore for less than Microglass, too.

The stratapore for the 24 valve will fit the 12 v trucks and work fine. The only reason there are diff numbers for the 12 and 24 is that the 24 valve filter has a heavier case for the increased oil pressure on the 24 v engine. When the 24v first came out it used the same oil filter as the 12, but they had a tendancy to split or leak on the seal. So they upped the case thickness and gasket strength and invented the 24v version.

The stratapore is constructed differently as far as filter media is concerned. The case problem occured when microglas filters were used on a 24 valve. Microglas was their best filter before stratapore.
