JA,
From my experience, and I've built everything from dirt bikes to liter class + drag bikes, leave your daily ride ALONE. If you want to tinker and play, build you a drag bike or better yet, get you a big ATV and start hanging stuff all over it. Power increases on bikes are VERY disimilar to our trucks. Every extra horsey is much more expensive and greatly cuts down on fuel milage and dependability. If you want 1100 performance, buy an 1100. We were just trying to let you know that a 750 Nighthawk will be up to your performance expectations.
A 750 Nighthawk is NOT a "naked sport bike" but it IS a "standard". A 600 class "naked" bike will run circles around the Nighthawk in handling and acceleration but with your frame you will not be comfortable on a 600 and you'll have to go to a liter class "naked" bike which again is going to be A LOT to handle.
If you go with a cruiser, I would go with the 1100. The 750/800 cruisers are nowhere near the 750 Nighthawk performance. You will NOT be able to get a 750/800cc cruiser to liter class performance and you'll wish you had AT LEAST an 1100 in 2 weeks.
Beyond pipes and jetting and chrome goodies, I would NOT go inside a metric cruisers engine. The only exception being the Yamaha Roadstar or Warrior. As expected, the step back in technology to a pushrod motor has left LOTS of room for performance improvements.
Again, these are just my opinions.
