Strobe lights

Just wondering who else has their truck strobed out. I have in the rear- 2 oval strobes on the backrack, 2 hide-aways in brake lights, mag mount amber strobe on roof. In the front, 2 hide-aways custom fit into driving lights next to my phords headlights (amber hide-aways) and 2 fog lights custom fitted by me with clear hide-aways.









I bought a 4 corner system of ebay , 6 head 90 watt power supply for $250. The roof strobe also came from ebay, but had a lame single flash power supply, i swapped it for a double flash p/s in another strobe i had.





only the front 4 and the rear hide-aways are hooked up. Sure scares the tailgaters away





anyone else have strobe fever?



I use the lights when i'm snowplowing (if we ever get anymore snow), transporting the snowplow, responding to fire calls, or if i'm on the side of the road on a main road.

Yeah, my friend put them in his 99' PSD crew cab when he first bought it. With limo tint all the way around and the strobes, we played fake police with tailgaters and speeders a couple of times... it worked, and it was funny. On a serious note, they are useful to those who push snow or tow

I have amber strobes to the rear in my back up lights (also converted to turn signals) and clear strobes in the front t/s. I use my truck for minor road calls and escorting equipment at work. I also use the truck for safety patrols at El Mirage and Bonneville speed trials.

Careful.

Realize this. That if you are using these lights and you do not have a good reason to, you are breaking the law and can see jail time for this. So be warned.



I have strobes in my truck also for fire calls. I also have wig-wags. But the strobes don't have the distance that halogens do. They get the same amount of attention, but the halogens just seem to work better. Maybe the strobes get a little more attention, but most people don't see them until they are too close anyway. If I were to do it again, I would go with the halogens and save some money.

The LED's seem to be a good cross. But they are even more expensive.

When I was an EMT about ten years ago, I had a wig-wag setup using strobes in my car. It was pretty nice--two quick strobe flashes one side, then two on the other and back and forth.



I have to agree on the warning against using the lights for fun--getting nailed for inappropriate use by police is one thing, but getting shot by some worthless little punk who thinks you're a cop would REALLY ruin your day.

I have a six head system on my truck from Nova. 4 on the corners and two on the roof. I got rearended a few years back while plowing. I was backing around a blind corner. I had a roof mounted halogen beacon,but he didn't spot it in time. The strobes,on high power really throw out a wicked pattern,and they really get your attention,especially around corners. I also use them on service calls as well.



Around here,it is only legal to use them for emergency use only,or snow plowing. It is also illegal to use clear strobes,they must be colored. I have been stopped by the fuzz a few time while driving from site to site while plowing,because they are so bright. They make me turn them all off except for the ones on the roof.



It's also a great promotional tool. If were slow at the shop I'll park the truck out front with the strobes on and it will usually get some attention.

I'm using a combo of red/amber strobes and halogen in rotators. Went back to a headlight flasher on the '99. Strobe headlights were OK at night but not enough in daylight. Rotators on roof are halogen for motion.

My daily driver has a 6 strobe mini-edge (for sale!) on the roof, 6 strobe nova RPM90 hideaway supply (6 strobe) plus halogen flashers in the front and a traffic backer in the rear (alternates between brake and backup lights)



Seems like a lot but the mini-edge is coming off soon

I'm also running the NovaRPM90. I have the strobes in the front corner lights, tailights, and also in the third brake light. What sold me on the Nova's is the control panel so you can control which lights are on (frnt. or back). You can also control the pattern and intensity of the lights with a rotary control knob.



I've been trying to get hold of Nova to see about getting wholesale prices on their equipment. Since I've installed mine, i've been swamped by request from other responders to do installs on their vehicles.

yeah, I saw the nova on our one asst. chiefs explorer about a year ago and it sold me right away, he had two rpm90s and the first time I saw it it was in chaos mode, my jaw dropped!:--)

Just got the new Weather proof 6 way Whelen power pack. Going to install it with hide-aways in the four corners and 52 linear strobes in the grill.

I have been buying both the Nocva and Whelen for our trucks at work. I get them from www.sirennet.com in Portland Oregon. Service has been pretty good.

Me Too! I have two forward and two to the rear mounted on my headache rack. I am using the Grote brand, and have them setup in wig-wag fashion with a double flash. I can control front and rear seperately as well as drop the intensity for night work. I do land surveying, and use mine while working along roadways.

I have them on the front and Rear, work on seperate switch..... Used on road twice..... Once when I got in Accident, and once when someone cut me off then they slammed on brakes



I was nice though... . 1)I didn't drag them out of the car, and 2) I didn't shoot them, I just gave them a Tongue lashing..... Really wanted to do 1 than 2 but I was good



Oh forgot to mention, they came with truck, but are pretty bright in the front, looks like a cop... well a cop driving a old Dodge PU LOL

I to have the whelen 6 head 90 watt. two up front in the head lights, two out back in the brake lights. Mine came with 9 selectable patterns and a day/night intensity setting. Thinking of adding a strobe tube the third brake light and adding a red strobe to the dash when funds permit. Also have wig wags on my fog lights.

I have the 6x90 whelen and currently have it driving red bulbs in the front corners and clear bulbs in the brake and reverse lights in the rear.



The red bulbs have 60% light loss so the front effect is pretty lousy. Some time this summer I will add red remote stobe heads to the grill guard and replace the front corner strobes with simple and inexpensive red halagon flashers.



The 4 rears work out well but I will probably replace the clear bulbs in the backup lights with amber bulbs. I feel the amber will be safer in heavy snow and I will be able to use them for warning when not doing volunteer emergency work.





I have a first gen slimlighter in my windshield that works well.



By far the most effective signal tool has to be the wig wags. I have a multipattern version from Galls. Nothing else on the truck is anywhere near as effective for clearing traffic while responding then the flashing headlights.



My response area is very rural and lightly populated. Our greatest concern is the risk of being hit at a scene by a sleepy or drunk driver.



I am looking for a good headache rack so I can eventually mount a mini-edge. I am waiting for them to come out with a LED version of the mini-edge. Our roads are often so bad that I really fear the life of the linear strobe bulbs in the strobe bars.
