We have an '05 ambulance and an '03 rescue with the "6. oh no something else just broke"... You can't even begin to imagine the nightmares they are causing us. :( :( :(

Ambulance and UPS both.

Unfortunately I think the Cummins 5. 9 need dipers too. The 12 valve engines leak heavily around the lifter cover and the 24 valves leak nicely around the pan gasket area.

I have installed (many) new gaskets on many new Cummins 5. 9 only to have the leak appear shortly after. I guess it's a small price to pay.

I have to keep the engines clean in order to pass inspection by the State Highway Patrol. My hot water pressure washer sees a lot of Cummins Beige.

The dripping doesn't bother me so much as the failure to run when cold, dying on the way to calls, failed turbos, leaking injectors, busted up TQshifts, etc etc. I wish our only trouble was a BH leak...

"can be used on 7. 3 powerstrokes that have exceeded 300,000 miles"

HA I dont think I've come accrost too many of those

haha well I was playing it safe Tom, I didnt want to pi*s in anyones wheates if they had a 300,000+ mile 7. 3

but youre right Ive not come accrost one at all

Tom aka supeerman4422 has a rip exhaust and still has the muffler, EVERYONE PM/MSG him to straight pipe it!!!

yep,i was sorta thinkin the same thing. i have owned several 12v engines in different applications. all of them leaked oil. yea i know of several 12v engines with over 300 k on them, but i didnt keep my 92 or 95 dodge long enough to see if they would last that long, simply because the trucks themselves wouldnt last that long. i didnt[dont] have that problem out of my gm and ford diesels. 2,7. 3 trucks with over 300k on them,3 gm trucks with 6. 2 or 6. 5 engines,2 of them have 300k on them,1 a little over 225k. my neighbor has over 400k on his 96 ford with a 7. 3,and the local cat dealer has one with over 500k on it. i skipped the 24v scene all together because of the issues i was seeing and hearing out of them. oil leaks, liftpumps and the 53 blocks to name a few. now i skipping the 6. 0 issues and have gone back to dodge to give them another try.

One of the construction contractors around here has an older Ford (6. 9 I think) with over 400K on it. It works hard too. Big utility box full of tools. Big fuel tank in the bed plus whatever else he needs to haul with it. He has jobs to keep track of and equipment to service. Of course, he knows diesels and how to take care of them. My brother in law has an old one too. His is very reliable if you don't mine slow.

I'm buying a big trailer to tow south, I was in the 6. 0 of the owners yesterday pulling it, turned the corner, straightened out, he gave it some gas and heard some binding metal on metal sounds... ... .

he said "did you hear that"

I replied "and felt it"... ... ... ... . he said he couldn't see how cause he just had it up to Whitehorse for a RECAL.

comfy front leather buckets though... ... ... ... Paul
