Came to the fire station today, its a slow Sunday so it was a good day to change oil and the oil and fuel filters. Got everything changed then tried to get the engine to start but no joy. Fuel filter housing refused to fill after repeated attempts, filled it with fuel manually but again no start. Checked codes and got a 0500 for the PCU and a 0230 for the ECU along with matching 1693s. Guess it's time to shop around for a new lift pump to get me running. Sucks having to leave my truck at work and wait for a new pump, I hope I can find one on this island, who knows how long UPS will take to deliver from the mainland w/ the christmas rush and all. BTW Merry Christmas to everyone.

P. S. or maybe it should be P. O. S. - Pump lasted for 40,433 miles.

just go to a local hot-rod shop and get a big electric pump for a carb'd application... bypass the factory lift pump and just run that... you'll get it done quick, and you won't have to worry about it crapping out on you again.

I will help.

Hi brother firefighter. I am a retired firefighter from local 1773 lewistion Id. I now live in wichita kansas. If you can think of anything I can do to get you going faster (shipping, leg work, anything) you let me know. David.

Forrest and Dave thanks for the ideas and offer of help. I figured I would get a stock replacement here and a spare from hoeslidiesel.com, I called the local dealer, Kamaaina Motors, get this they wanted $413. 00, I told them they could keep it. So I ordered another from Hoesli for $129 plus a few more dollars for the washers, then a BHAF and a red valve cover. I figure I'll fix it then figure out what steps to take to minimize the chance of this happening again. Maybe RASP, pusher pump or relocate OEM pump to frame rail.

So Dave how many years did you serve and how long since you've retired? I've got about 2. 5 yrs. till I make my 25 and am eligible for retirement. I'll miss the job but I feel like 25 is enough.

homeka45,

you can change oil and do work on your truck at the station. That would be so nice, we are not even allowed to wash our trucks at the station.

Years ago I was able the work on my truck at the station, only on week ends, but with the volume increasing I would just get a project started and then out the door on a call. So I gave it up.

Wow,

I didn't think doing that kind of stuff at the station would be a problem, I got to work slid the oil drain pan under the truck opened the futaba valve and let it drain until we finished the morning and Sunday routine then went out and did the rest. I thought things were going well until the lift pump fiasco. Fortunately it was a slow day, only one call in the 24 hour shift, we usually average about four to five calls a day, mostly ems.

Please help me hammerseley???? Please help me why you would write about where I live when this is a truck forum. What is there to wonder about the move to wichita? Its not enough to be critical of what people write about there trucks, now you have to comment on where I move? And if you must know, I will be moving back to the north west in a year. Is that OK or will you be wondering about that too SRadke? You guys have too much time on your hands.

My apologies. It was never my intention to critcize or antagonize you. It was simply a question expressed in humor. I would hope this will not get in the way of the usefull discussions that take place on this board, and for the record, I have never been critical of what people write about their trucks. Writing about your truck is what this site is about. You're quoted statement above... ... probably true, I'll admit that :)

SRadke,

Thank you for your apology, and I am sorry for implying that you have been critical of what people write about their trucks. That is simply just not true. I guess I am a little... ... . (well I guess a lot) sensitive about having to leave Idaho where I have grown up and lived my whole life up until now. Believe me the move from Lewiston to Wichita was not my first choice. My wife is attending graduate school and that is why we are here. I am counting the days until our return to the northwest! (81 weeks left!) Thank you again for you sincere apology Scott. Take it easy, and happy holidays.

Follow-up, took two days to get a replacement from www.Hoeslidiesel.com, not to shabby all the way to the neighbor islands from Indiana! Had help from one of the other guys on duty, replaced it in about 2Hrs. , bumped the starter about 8 times, cranked it about 10 secs. w/ the pedal floored, and the cummins came back to life. Hardest part was keeping those damn seals on while trying to thread the banjos on. Lost one somewhere in the bowels of the trucks undercarriage, used one of the old seals. Note to self, next time buy at least 6 seals.
