I'm in a bad spot and need help ASAP. I'm trying to get the harmonic balancer off of a 2004 acura mdx and the dang bolt is super tight. I have the special holder tool and have tried a little heat from a butane torch but it won't budge with breaker bars and a 3/4" ratchet. Will an acetylene torch be too much? It has normal right hand threads.

TIA

Had a similar problem on a '65 Mustang 289 HiPo bazillions of years ago. I had to put it in gear, set the parking brake hard, block all four wheels (which it still rolled over the blocks), then allow it to contact the garage wall, while I used a three foot pipe on the Indestro 1/2 inch ratchet to remove the bolt. It took a lot of finesse to slowly remove that stubborn bolt. Tore up a few threads on the bolt and it was too hot to handle from the friction. I don't know how the mechanic cross threaded it so badly.

heat the bolt up to loosen loctite on threads.

Get a good quality impact gun on it and should come right out.

This may very well be a torque to yield bolt which means you need to replace i with a new one on install.

some of the honda/acura is/are reverse thread(left turn means tightening the bolt) fyi!
and some of the harmonic bolts are tight!!

All Data says nothing about reverse threads but I have considered that. There is a you tube video of a guy removing one and it's regular threads. I'll try the acet. torch and get western with it.
