Agreed about the Land Cruisers.

Nothing we've got in the states can compete with the versions available in Europe. Just about everything is available with a diesel and manual transmission, and many of the vehicles that have IFS in the states, have solid axles overseas. Apparently the "plush ride" in an SUV is strictly an American "want".

What I would give for an 05 toyota crewcab hilux with diesel and 5spd...

Overheard some where that Toyota is coming out with a full size truck with a turbo diesel for the 2007-2008 model year!! I'll be a lookin' ! :D

If I could only pick 1 4x4... it would be a Rubicon hands down. I simply don't know of another 4x4 that has the off-road versatility of a Jeep. My 93 is daily driven by a woman (gasp:{ ) that has broken or destroyed everything with 4 wheels she has ever owned. It now has 163k miles on it and I haven't so much as changed a lightbulb in it. Well..... she did burn up a clutch at 40k miles but that's what you get when you try to drive around with the e-brake on. Besides, how many 4x4's can go topless or doorless?

I was elated when Jeep developed the Rubicon having owned a 99 TJ and an 85 CJ-7 previously. But I needed my CTD to haul the boat and only had the budget for one 4x4. Then Dodge decides to build the Power Wagon, and I thought long and hard about trading-even posted for advice here before taking the plunge. Happy to report all is well so far. Mileage is something I need to get used to, but the price of Diesel is more that making up for the fact that I've lost 5 MPG.
