i know what studs are and the process that goes along with it - leave the head on, bottom tap, change out one at a time, and follow the torque specs. /instructions - take my time.

i do not know what the o-ringing process is? Can i do it myself in my garage with the "basic" tools you find in 95% of any gear head's toolbox? or is it a whole nother ball game?

reason i am asking, i read in a post where someone (fellow TDR member) suggests anything over 500hp and 50lbs of boost should get the o-ring process done.

because when i drive the truck the few times a month (thanks whoever made diesel a WHOLE DOLLAR MORE THAN 87 OCTANE:mad:#@$%!) i really make sure to get the bugs and itches out of my system to last a while - because my 1999 honda civic 5sp just does not do the trick, but i can't beat the gas mileage = 43 mpg was my best, but consistantly over 35 mpg. Diesel is $4. 25 and 87 is down to $ 3. 19 around Gettysburg.

so what is O-RINGING? and what is involved with the process.

O-rings are . 041 stainless wire thats pressed into the head. I use a BHJ tool to cut the head for O-rings. There's pictures on my site under services hope this helps.

I basicly have the same set up you do. (ps62,mach 4,comp ,smarty)and im in the process of installing my o-ringed head. Got it done by pdw in hershey p. a. cory is a great guy to deal with. o-ringed mine because it was leaking a little oil in the front. Like poole said it must be cut with a jig so your gonna have to take it somewhere. The only thing im not looking foward to is all the retorque's everyone say you need to do on the studs. Is it worth it ? Maybe not until you have to clean all the oil out of the cooling system.
