I had a low power problem and a check engine light, I went and had the code read and it was low voltage at the boost sensor, and I noticed the oil pressure gauge was jumping around alot also. I went home and found some corrosion in the connector between the map sensor and the edge box I have on it, so I cleaned that out and it did fine for a few days and now it is doing it again and now the oil pressure gauge drops to zero for a little bit and the check gauge light comes on then it goes back up and back down and so on. I guess I am wondering why the oil pressure gauge is acting funny when the corrosion involved the map sensor. Is there some sort correlation of the two. Also, could there be another issue?

I was in a hurry when I cleaned out the connectors, all I did was spray some lubricant down in them and let it soak a little and then cleaned out the corrosion the best I could with a small screwdriver and then put a bunch of dielectric grease in them and put them back together, then it worked fine, but now it's back. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Cory

same thing

I took it apart again this morning and it looked fine, but I went ahead and sprayed some more PB Blaster in it and some dielectric grease, then went out and drove it, still no power and oil pressure going up and down then all of the sudden the power came back and the oil pressure gauge was normal. So I'm not sure what the deal is, I guess I'll drive it and see what happens, but I got a feeling it's going to come back. Any ideas yet?

Operation of the oil pressure sensor on the diesel engine is controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM) The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) does not have any control over the sensor.

The oil pressure sensor uses three circuits. They are:

A 5 - volt power supply from the ECM

A sensor ground through the ECM's sensor return

A signal to the ECM relating to engine oil pressure

I would ck for a common ground and supply ckt issue to start

Thanks for the reply Bob.

It started acting up again, so I pulled off the road and unhooked the edge box and everything is back to normal, power is back and the oil pressure was reading just fine. I guess the corrosion damaged part of the connector on the edge box, not sure how that affects the oil pressure, but it seems ok for now.

Drive with the Edge disconnected for a while. I have seen them do some strange things with trucks. Check all of your grounds - engine & chassis. I did some sanding & all of my grounds are now on bare metal. You could also check the ecm connections & put some dieletic grease in the connectors.

Have your batteries load checked, I have seen more than one battery with internal plate problems, cause strange electrical problems with trucks.

Another thing to try, is pull the gauge cluster & put it back in. Make sure the 4 mounting screws are tight.
