My dad has a '99 24 valve that is causing us trouble. In '03, he had a Westach fuel pressure gauge installed with the sending unit mounted in the innermost clean port on the fuel filter cap. The gauge has worked great till the other day when it quit. We installed a new sending unit yesterday along with the Vulcan relocation hose and sending unit mounting bracket for the firewall. Fired up the truck and once again the gauge came to life, job complete.

This morning, fired up the truck to run to town and nothing! WTF!! Checked all connections for leaks, nothing. Checked fuse, good. Checked gauge for power, good. Ohm checked the sending unit as suggested in directions, good. I thought maybe it was the sending unit anyway so I hooked it up to my '06 and it worked perfect. My dad suggested maybe the new hose has something to do with the problem. We removed the hose and installed the unit directly to the filter cap port again, nothing. I checked my ground connections twice and they all seamed good.

I'm frustrated beyond frustration. If anyone has any ideas, I'm more than willing to listen. Thanks in advance, Mike

While Westach has some good gauges their fuel pressure gauge is one of the absolute worst and is known to have the very same issues you describe. I have a dealer friend who was using them at one time and after repeated calls and many sender replacements he has stopped. One thing he told me was the Westach fuel pressure gauge is not meant to be used for diesel which was told to him by his supplier after they contacted Westach about all the warranty claims.

I know its not what you may want to hear, but,I would move on to a different brand.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind hearing the negatives cause I kinda knew about the fuel gauge problems already. I too have a Westach fp gauge and I'm on my 3rd sending unit.

The mounting on the engine is likely the problem. You can only shake a sensor so long before it fails. I mounted mine on the firewall and used hoses to connect it. No problems for about 8 years.

I have noticed with my gauge erratic readings or no reading after hitting a bump in the road & having the same problem reoccur immediately after sender replacement. I have decided it's the gauge. I have a center gauge cluster & I put some rubber under the cluster & this has just about eliminated the problem.

It wasn't mounted on the engine. It was mounted on the firewall with a hose.

I used a needle valve on the input banjo to the P7100 and a grease gun hose to the sender which is mounted on the fender. I've used it since '96 with no problems.
