Also on said truck I noticed what appears to be a temp sensor on the bellhousing, do not remember my ol' 93 having this, what is it?

Maybe its a pickup for a tach. Does the truck have an aftermarket tach?

If you look closer it is in the hot line coming out to the trans cooler. This is a high temp switch. It will drop OD if the trans fluid goes above 275 degrees.



This was added in 91. 5 when Dodge went to a OD trans.

Pick-up for the tach is on the front, nowhere near the bellhousing. I'd tend to agree with Philip- maybe a temp override for the O/D. BUt if your fluid gets hot enough to kick it out of OD, you may as well start looking for another transmission.

Like I said in my first post here, do not remember my other 93 having this, and it does look like it didn't come from the factory that way.

Some of the tachs that Surplus Center had for sale used a pickup that went in the bell housing and read flywheel teeth. Sorry if I sounded cranky, the baby was screaming in my ear! :{

Yes, It does. Also, there is a warning light to tell you your transmission is to hot, it is right next to the "Wait to start" Light. Two problems with this. When in Drive, you cannot see the light because the gearshift handle is in the way, & by the time the light comes on(290 F. , I think) It is almost to late to save the transmission. That is why some of us intall a temp gauge. At least now I know something is wrong before my transmission gets ruined!
