What a great engineering feat.... Capless fuel filler. Are they idiots at FCA?? So last night was the first time I've filled tank since I got the truck last Tuesday. I stop at Chevron and put the nozzle in, pull the lever and whoosh.... Diesel everywhere! Did it twice until I figured out you have to stuff the nozzle completely into the filler neck. About a 1/4 gallon of fuel everywhere. Then as standing there I notice that the weight of the filler and hose hanging off the green plastic neck is bending the green plastic into an oval shape. So I guess I need to hold the filler the entire fill-up to prevent trashing the green plastic fuel "hole"??? I also noticed that the spring like thing thats wrapped around the filler neck over time will just eat up the green plastic thing. What F'n BS idea is this?? Did they redesign the whole thing just to make space for the DEF filler?? F'n idiots man! The DEF fluid lasts a long time, It's not needed to have it so accessible like your adding DEF every other fill-up. The DEF filler should be under the hood, Not tucked up off the side. I already have the aluminum fuel cap but still man.... what a BS idea. I'd love to hear FCA's reason for the re-design. Hopefully some aftermarket company will offer a better solution than the simple caps that are out there. When I went to my truck this morning there was a big spot of fuel right under the fuel filler on the ground.. Then when I pulled up to my shop a couple of drops of fuel already dripped on the ground, I looked underneath and the entire fuel filler hose is wet and dripping and there is fuel spread down the frame rail. WTF us this??? 1 week old truck with 478 miles on it ******* fuel?? Going to the dealer today to see WTF is up.

I have my phone dialing a whahmbulance for you right now.

I dont have problem with capless filler on my 5500, but I do have to stick it all the way in if I dont want a diesel bath. My filler hose takes two horizontal 90s then goes into the 52 gal tank. One the filler nozzle clicks, stop. If you're at a high velocity truck stop, still might get a diesel tsunami bath if not careful.

You'll get better and before you know it you'll be bragging about it. Lol

If you think relocating the DEF fill port to under the hood is a good idea you haven't looked at the DEF tank location on the GM trucks. THAT should be a crime.
Ever think about trying to dump a 2-1/2 gallon jug while under the hood, No thanks.

Haven't ever spilled any diesel while fueling. Maybe you'll get it next time.

Have not had any trouble with my new 18. I have noticed that if you over fill it drips on the ground as you noticed.

I fill it until it clicks off and then do that twice more. Never have had a drip afterwards. SnoKing

I use the cap SnoKing listed. Works great. I fill til I drip then it’s full.

Green plastic is flexible no biggie. It all works justfine.

No issues on mine. Yes, if you try to overfill the tank it will run out. I put a Geno's locking fuel cap and def cap on mine. I don't prefer capless, but I don't have any issues. Caps are being phased out on all vehicles. Only a matter of time.

I found that to not be the case with Mexican built trucks, only junk I've owned were trucks made in St Louis by union hands.
My 2017 Ram 5500 made in Mexico didn't get the rear defroster and the factory steps had less than half the supporting bolts installed. One too many Tequila breaks or a crew from Saint Lewis subbed that day. The rest of it seems good.

I have owned 3 Mexi Rams and 2 US Rams. Not much difference. US both have 400k on them. Mexi 2 at65k 1 at 130k.

Me too. And I got great service out of all of them. The 02 did require a new injection pump, but I tapped it for more power. So I count that as me.

Not putting the nozzle all the way in before squeezing the trigger was a newbie mistake. I'm sure it will only happen once.

I've never had a problem with the nozzle getting warped by the weight of the hose, not even the big-boy hose at the truck lanes. Maybe I've just not noticed or it has been so minimal I haven't paid it much attention. If it is happening on mine, it has caused no problems.

I bought the Mopar cap for mine. I'm not a big fan of the open top.

The leaks you are speaking of sound like a problem that needs to be dealt with under warranty. While no one like to take their brand new vehicle in for repairs, it happens so you just deal with it. Typically you deal with these problems quietly so your "friends" don't give you a hard time.

No way would I want the DEF filler under the hood. Why would you want to pop the hood and reach way up there to fill it and possibly spill DEF in your engine bay?

No.

Your VP44 failure was most likely the result of a change of the matterial used in the bore. Mine got 216 code and dead pedal at 52k. Started with extended cracking when hot. Changed it myself with one from MWFI.
