Ok well they wanted the CB and ipod and such out of my truck but they had several things against them this morning at 1am. The first was: it was a kid that needs to learn his trade craft a little better. The second was: that I was awake at the time. I have never seen anyone leave in such a hurry but I might have made a very distinct sound when I was stepping out on to the balcony. The third was: half the stuff they wanted was not in my truck at the time.

Ok so knowing that this is an 05 2500 with 119k on the the odometer and the insurance deductable is 500. 00.

should I just replace the handle and lock?
Should I pony up the deductable and let them do the whole door?

How hard is the R&R on the door handle and lock?

I really dont have any answers for your question. I really just want to know what the distinct sound was. Perhaps the last thing a pheasant might here???

God Bless you sir. For what it's worth, if the door isnt dented in and just scratched, I'd save my $500 and just replace the door handle. I have never done it though, don't know how easy it is.

I am not sure how the locks come in those door handles, but you might have to end up paying for a locksmith to key it the same as existing. I had to change the ingnition switch on my 98 and I ended up leaving the door alone because they wanted too much money to key it alike.

I'd say just replace the handle assembly yourself.



Look into Jimmi Jammers too, a few of the 3rd Gen guys who want thieves to have to work a little harder seem to like them.

I put Jimmi Jammers on both my '97 and '06. They seem to be a pretty decent product and simple to install.

Replace the handle and buff the door. You would be crazy to turn in a claim for something as minor as that, even if it is more then the $500 retail to fix it.

Hopefully the distinct sound was a 12 guage shell being racked in a pump shotgun!!

People lose their Keys, So we change them out for New ones,I have to or three extras, if you want one let me know, otherwise the dealer going to hit you up for $40. 00, its somewhat of a PITA to change the lock, takes about 1hr. Generally the customer find the key and ask if we want them, I ask do you want the lock back ( Holy &;/#*) no ,go figure.

I walked outside one morning about three-four weeks ago to find my '06 Ram, parked under a carport in front of my garage with a light shining on it had a shattered driver's door window. I thought someone had vandalized it. When a professional young police officer came out he told me, "no, it wasn't vandalism, somone was trying to get your Garmin GPS mounted on top of the dash. " I remembered later hearing my dog bark once in the middle of the night. Cost me $140 to have Safelite come out and install a new glass.



Low life scumbags too lazy to work trying to support their drug habit with the labor of others I guess.
