[Texas Diesel]

3 years ago I met a 12V 1996 owner. He is a retired mechanic (gasoline) so he considers himself quite knowledgeable. 3 years ago I suggested he add a EGT and boost gauge. He says "BS, I dont need that junk". Ok, I suggest he might want to read up on KDP's. He says "no way, if it aint broke dont fix it".

Whatever. I leave him alone and last week he comes up to me and asks if I have an EGT gauge & boost gauge. WTF? I say "yes". He proceeds to inform me that his is POST turbo and anyone is a "fool" for installing it PRE turbo. I casually mention that POST turbo is not really accurate, he interupts me and says that probes "fail all the time" and POST follows PRE exactly 300F. Whatever. I try to walk away, he follows and mentions he was low on power and saw EGT (post) of 900F just cruising empty. He decided that he might need a boost gauge, (ya think??)

He reports WOT boost of 9PSI :-laf He further states that low boost was causing high EGT and low power, imagine my surprise. He "fixed" the wastegate to get 16PSI WOT. I ask if that is the spec, ok I'm baiting but why not... He says "it doesnt matter what because it pulls like it should" WTF? Like it should ????



Being stupid, I suggest he move his probe PRE like 95% of the literate world, I get the same "the probes fail all the time" response again.



Finally I get it and walk away, he follows and offers to "help" me with my truck (!). I said "no thanks, it runs like it should " and walk off real fast like.

I actually had guy that couldnt change a flat tire (seriously, someone had to pull over on 290 and do it for him) try to give me advice on my truck. Once this same moron tried to tell me that bigger diameter tires wouldn't affect the outcome of a dyno run compared to smaller ones..... i told him he was wrong that it changes the gearing... . he told me to "go back to school"..... i told him, well lets just say he apologized and we dont talk that much anymore, and this guy is an engineer... . sad.

Funny story, but probably about 98% of all diesels with pyros have them post turbo.

I had a guy (who doesn't even own a diesel) tell me at the track one day I should get some Banks equipment on my truck if I really want to get some serious power . I'm a nice guy :-laf so I played along for about 1/2 hour and he just thought he helped me out so much it was too funny.

Klenger, from reading your posts you seem very happy with your truck, thats good enough for me. Plus seeing how much you tow with it, the truck seems to do the job quite nicely.



You take some awesome trips and I LOVE seeing the pictures you take. Ok, I'm wierd (surprised? :-laf) I actually enjoy seeing friends vacation pictures. Good story here, once a friend sent me a CD of his vacation. Very nice pictures including some of his wife in compromising... uh... situations, yea, thats it.



Being a instigator I asked him about them. He about died and made swear to destroy the CD and NOT TELL HIS WIFE. I said I would do that but asked if I had to delete them from the internet I told him the guys on the truck site really liked the pics.
