what mower isnt diesel??

Kubota

ZD21

B2400 both 3cly diesel

Im in the process of putting a small 2cyl diesel on a push mower :-laf it should be quite the deal once its finished (ongoing project)

The problem to me sounds like a muffler bearing going out. when these go its bad news and they wont idle/run very well. Also rotate teh tracks/tires that too causes unstable motor idleing :-laf hahah I couldnt resist

Ian

Ian, KBennet is referrring to my dieselized 3. 5hp Briggs & Stratton mower :-laf

I thought about takeing my old leaf blower and having the head milled to run and extreme amount of compression and adding a little diesel into the fuel to see if I can get it to lite...

Sounds crazy, but I get bored...

Care to share which make/model engine you are using?

Hatz makes a nice vertical shaft diesel, but it's horribly spendy... I'll wait until the Chinese manufacturers come out with a clone like they've done with their Yanmar copycats.

Its still in the beginning stages (auto-cad schematics) but I have the complete deck & what not and a small 90* gearbox off a tool&die machine

Im searching for a 2cyl but thinking im going to end up with a 1cyl

http://www.launtop.co.nz/smallengines.html

so far they have different choices on output shafts, The motor is goign to be pushed forward a little (room for the gearbox to center on deck) I also have to turn down a custom coupler since the greabox is equipped with outputs on each end. Im thinking a collar with offset keyways to connect the two. Either I will have to take the gearbox off or motor off If i ever have to devorice them.

NorthernTool.com also has more motors

Oh, okay... I can envision what you're doing. Nice.

I've looked into the Launtop's - they don't have a vertical shaft... which would make life MUCH easier. I have seen a Launtop up close and personal, though - seem to be built like brick outhouses... . just like the Yanmar's they carbon copied. One or two Launtop engines will be in my 6-month plan of fun and games... I hope. :D

Why not go hydrostatic?

Matt

I havent given that a thought, I planned on putting this on a small push mower just for the heck of it but I also have a "Gambles Farmcrest" chassis... well everything but a motor, but the gearbox is belt driven... I need to do hydrostat or come up with somekind of trans to fit the same motor... I want to stay away from direct drive but It could work

Ive been keepin my eye on laundtop motors on ebay and somewhere I swear they had a vertical shaft, If not some other company had one and I should have bought it at the time but I guess it was a high price and that was teh reason I didnt

ah well Ill get something figured out

Ian

My only concern is that my 'walk behind' mower kicks up a LOT of dust (15+ year old Snapper 'Hi-Vac')... I'd hate to prematurely eat a perfectly good brandy new diesel engine from ingesting dried lawn loam...
