Stupid Tire Question

OK I know their are no such things as stupid tire, at least I think so. My question is, will the the tires that came off my 2005 CTD 4x4 which are 265/70/17 BFG long trail TA's fit on my step dads 2003 dually? I bought new tires and have only about 3,500 miles on them and he seems to think that they are to wide and to short. Is there any validity to this or am I crazy trying to give them to him and he doesn't want them. It shouln't affect his speedo or affect his power in any way should it? Any help would be appreciated. If he doesn't want them I guess I will sell them. His loss.

Don't the duallies run 235s? If so it will affect his speedometer. The 265s are taller. Therefore the gearing would be a little higher. Speedometer would read slow. I would have to do the calculations.



Also, I believe the 265s are wider and would be close to touching when loaded.

i thought those year trucks had 16inch wheels though... . instead of our 17 inchers.

The SRW 265/70/17 tires are 1. 25 inches wider than the DRW 235/80/17 so they will probably rub sidewalls on the back of the dually.

The 235's are 31. 8" tall and 9. 25" wide.

The 265's are 31. 6" tall and 10. 5" wide.

That's a 0. 642% difference in height or about 0. 4 MPH at 60 MPH.

I would bet they would be alright. There is quite alot of room between the duals. Only way to tell is to mount them. Unless some has already tryed. It's kind of like the the early dually's that came with 215/85/16's alot of folks said you couldn't run 235's on them, they would rub. I'll tell you what, I ran 235's on on 2 gen one trucks and 1 '97 with no pobs what so ever. Give 'em a whirl. JMHO

I'm running 265 70 17 Maxxis Buckshots and I have 3/8 clearance on duals with load, no problem. I know people running 315's on these 6" rims with 2" spacers on the rear. I wish I could find wider dually wheels.
