I never thought I'd say this but I think I want to cut back on my HP.

I currently have 370 injectors and have thought about going to 300's but not sure I want to do that either. Will playing around with the cam plate ie: moving it back some do the same as smaller injectors? In other words will it cause the pump to flow less fuel? If I can reudce the HP and keep my current parts that is what I think I want to do, just in case I feel the need to boost it back up again!

Thanks for your help,

Lonnie

Why do you need less HP?

Are your EGT's too hot?

Rear tires taking a beating?

Wife complaining about side-effects of sustained high g-force maneuvers?

Been helping a friend with the same problem by sliding the plate back little by little, it works. All you are really losing is unusable hp because the egts are too high. Not really a concern if all you are doing is racing in-between stop lights.

His high HP truck was no fun to drive or especially tow with, you had to keep your eyes on the pyro all the time. Nice to look at the Montana scenery rather than a gauge all the time.

Sliding the plate back is very effective in reducing power, keep playing with it till it gets where you like it. I have had to do that due to clutch concerns and it works well.

Matt,

You know, I spent a bunch of money getting the right combination for towing. Lots of useable HP, EGT's right where they need to be, etc. , etc. .

Then I have the fifth gear nut problem twice. So I put a "Standard Transmission" rebuild in it and in less then 2000 miles of towing my 8000 lb. trailer mostly in fifth, fifth gear croaks. I guess I'm paranoid about towing in fifth with the HP I have. ? Or maybe it was just a fluke. About all I do is tow with it now & don't want it to happen again... Sniff, sniff, I'm so confused!

:{ :D

I just don't have the funds right now to put a 6 speed in it, & I'm not so sure that would fix it anyway.

At the least I still have my propane as a backup to blow a Duramax off the road from time to time:D

I put a valet switch in mine. Cuts fueling enough to keep power, boost, and EGT's down, even towing, and still runs better than stock. I don't worry too much about breaking stuff when I'm using it. All I have to do is flip the switch and I have full power, and LOTS of smoke. :D

Lonnie: I wonder why you keep on eating 5th in that NV4500?

I agree with the valet switch and plate sliding methods of HP reduction... . I wouldn't loose the 370's, though - the low end torque increase is too sweet to loose.

We had to move Dad's plate back and forth a few times to get the temps where we needed them when he tows.

The AFC is somewhat easier to tune if you feed it a variable boost signal.

Valet!

I use the Valet method.

I went one step more and put in 2 adjustable pressure switches that turn on LED's on the gauge pod.

1 LED comes on at 7 psi. only while in Valet mode. (I call it my fuel mizer lite)

1 LED comes on at 30 psi. only in Go -Go mode Big Bright RED LED.

This lets me keep my eyes on the road when "entering the freeway" at full throttle.

;)

P. S. The Valet switch keeps my shift kit equipped stock transmission alive till I can afford the reaol deal.

Then no more valet switch !Oo.

There's a dude that advertises in the TDR classifieds that offers a homegrown electronically variable AFC signal fooler.....

Looks pretty sweet... . in theory, it should work awesome.
