I want to change my transmission fluid, but not sure where the fill plug is or where to fill it :( i know it is stupid but that is why i love TDR everyone helps out. thanx ahead of time. o ya which is the best fluid to put in! nv5600 / also which fluid for my transfer case? 04. 5 600 not sure which t/c it is!

The drain is the bottom bolt of the PTO cover, I believe either side works. The fill plug is on the drivers side. I use a make shift bolt to get it out, but I think it takes a 17mm alan wrench... or is that the T-case? Anyway, it's about half-way up, the only one there. I am currently using Amsoil MTF in my NV5600, and their ATF in the T-case.

<20 mins for a reply, not too shabby.

he's looking for the fill location not drain. I know on the autos you fill through the dip-stick neck. Ie. . pull the checker out and get a funnel that fits the neck top and fill it up. Not sure if that is the same on manuels.

A 10 MM bolt with double nuts will work, that is 17 MM wrench size.

Use a synchromesh type trans fluid, amsoil, redline, pennszoil.

5 quarts in NV5600.

2 Quarts of ATF+4 in transfer case.

Transfer case takes ATF+4 type transmission fluid. can get from amsoil, redline, or dealer.

Wow, someone beat me to it.

Dodge has no recommended change interval for the NV5600 for either schedule A or B, but they expect you to change the front and rear diff fluid every 15k. WTF, over.

I set up my schedule to change all the fluids every 24k / 24 months, and oil changes at 6k.

Someone once mentioned that it's a good idea to loosen the "fill plug" before draining the fluid. That way, you know, for sure, that the plug will come out for the re-fill.

You could remove one of the PTO covers & mop out the extra old fluid & clean the magnet in the bottom of the transmission case. Take the left (drivers side) cover off to do this proceedure.

On my last gear oil change, I installed a trans. filter on the right side PTO opening. I once saw a picture of a used filter & it was filthy.

The filters are available through Geno's Garage.

Drivetrain I go 15,000 miles, maybe overkill but I like servicing my truck. :D

Engine I go 5,000 miles, again I just love wrenching. :D

I've got a little over 10,000 miles and I have changed every fluid twice, will go with normal routine of 5,000 and 15,000 from here on out. I like to change fluids when things are new to get the wear in particles out.

When I had my 03 6 spd I would change out the transmission fluid every 30K. It was easy to remember as it was every other oil/filter/fuel fiter change so it worked out nice. All my service work was done at once!

Also, I alsways used Amsoil (theres a shock).
