I recently acquired some 12 inch subwoofers, the box that came with them is really big and unfortunately can only keep them on top of my back seat for right now. I would like to build a box that's small enough to go UNDER the seat, has anybody accomplished this feat? It's a pretty tiny area. Any advice would be appreciated.

check on e bay..... some one makes one for 2 twelves that fit under the back seat. It will be cheaper and look better.....

there is someone that builds them for the second gen trucks on ebay, but make sure you silicon the seems inside before you stick your subs in!

12" box

If you measure the distance from the seat bottom to the floor its just over 10 inches. I have a couple customers I have built boxes for 12" subs in second gen trucks. I have accomplished it by having the baffle board angling down 15 degree's and raising the seat mounts up 1 1/2 inches. The physical space for the 12 usually isnt a problem its coming up with proper airspace in the enclosure to make the sub happy. I dont know what sub your planning to run but in the wrong enclosure those 12's would get spanked by 2-10's in the right box with a whole lot less work involved.

Well said... ... ... not many people know that!:D

I went through the same thing when I bought mine new. Luckily my brother was the head installer at Circuit City at the time so I had some educated help. I know you got the 12's cheap, but like carfichris said, at set of 10's with the proper air space will propably be just as good. I didn't feel like going through the headache of building one, so I went with a MTX Thunderform box, all one piece const. and it fit perfectly under the back seat. Though, with little room to spare. Like mentioned above, you'll have to raise the rear seat to make a box for 12's. Plus, every speaker requires a certain amount of airspace for optimal performance, and just because its a 12, or 10 or whatever, different brands of the same size will take different amounts of airspace. Where one 12 may need 1. 5 cu. ft. another 12 may need 2. Look up the brand speaker you have and try to find the correct amount before you buy/make a box. Also a little polyfil in the box will help "smooth" out the sound and a little dynomat on the backwall of you cab will help also, trust me, been there, done that;)
