Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) egr frustration

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Door Seal Leaking

:{ Long Story short: I picked up my 98. 5 after extensive A/C repair including pulling the dash. Experienced many non-function problems, took it back. Now, no power and I get an rushing air noise that at first I thought was the A/C in cab fan. Rolling down the window, I hear the same noise outside but louder. Noise comes on at about 1/3 throttle. Replaced the air filter, which was ~60% clogged, helped a little. WOT at 30mph held for 5 seconds or so only gets 2600 RPM and 1 to 3 mph increase. Also, the transmission (auto) does not seem to know what gear to be in. I'm headed back to the dealer but I would like some ammo to take with me. Any constructive help would be appreciated.

Any check engine lights? How many miles on your truck? All of these gremlins appeared after the service or just some?

Some kind of turbo leak. Try soap and water ( soapy) to see if this will find it. I have NO experience with it but the thought is incomplete recharge of the A/C system?

Headed back to the dealer

You are correct that all these problems surfaced after the A/C service. :confused: The truck has 70K miles and there are no warning lights and all the gauges (stock) read normal. I never have been happy with the trans, in fact I've paid to have it checked out twice. One thing that I did not mention before is that when I shut it down, I hear what sounds like air leaking (rushing) out of something.

I'm going to some checking today and I will follow the turbo compressed air path. Any other advice/experience would be appreciated. I'm headed back to the dealer on Monday. So far the repairs have been under an extended warranty/ Oo. BTW, except for the oversized tires, the truck is completely stock and been babied all its life.

You will hear a certain amount of air rushing upon shut off due to the fact the turbo is still spinning when the engine is shut off, there is a post regarding a weird shifting auto in here, take a peek at that, there is a governor in your transmission that decides what gear it will be in, and I understand that is is prone to failure, so that may lead to the shifting issue, as to the ruching air, I am doubtful on a boost leak at 70k with a factory turbo, but it couldn't hurt to check the boots in your boost system (intercooler), giver a whirl.

Problem Solved

In order to access the A/C compressor, the dealer removed a section of pipe going from the turbo to the intercooler. When they replaced it, the boot was butted up against the end of the metal tube and the clamp was only on the metal. Secondary problem, was that the clamp immediately below the turbo was loose.

Thanx to those who replied with advice. :D

Whew! no big repair bill! Oo.

I can't wait to "talk" to the dealer! :-{}

good luck with the dealer

I would interested to hear what they say. I had my VP replaced at the dealer and they;

Left a neg batt cable loose

Broke off a chassis ground (to same neg cable) wire and did not repair it

Smashed the fins flat on the AC condensor

Grease on the console

They did replace the condensor but only after an arguement. To top it off they insisted on charging me for a rental car for the day while they repaired THEIR damage. Of course, they didn't say that I would be charged until I returned to collect my truck. I refused and insisted that I speak with the Gen Mgr. The writer went off to talk about it and came back with my keys looking and acting very displeased.

Gee, I can't wait to buy my next rig from them... . NOT.

Done with the dealer

SG5054

You make me feel lucky with my relatively minor problems. At least for this go round. The dealer corrected the problems but never did say "sorry for the inconvenience" or anything similar. It took three trips to get it right. A part of the story I did not include was that this all started in July at another dealer. They had diagnosed a plugged A/C system and wanted a $1000 to fix it. Their demeanor changed from oh boy we're getting a $1000 bucks from this guy :-laf to oh its covered by the extended warrantee :( . Their diagnosis changed and the job was done in less then 3 hours. They originally said it would be an all day job. A month later while dropping my son off at school in Phoenix AZ the A/C quit. Another $100 dollars down the drain. I figure I'm out $200 and now have a bright aluminum condenser very visible behind the grill. Not to mention the time off work and fuel cost. My only solace is that my warrantee is now over, and I don't have to take it to a dealer. It's too bad that dealers don't treat their customers better. They loose a lot of business and I that leads to further abuse to stay in business. Good luck with your truck. BTW I see that you have a LSD with a 3:54 ratio. Is that an aftermarket? If so, which one and how's it working.

hey dw,

I just moved from Queen Anne in Seattle 2. 5 years ago. We certainly miss it. Spent alot of time at the St. Michelle winery, I think... . Wife's family is from Woodinville.

The LSD is factory and seems to work just fine, never had any issues (knock knock). Hit 120k last week.

No, the dealer never apologized to me either.
