Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Sudden loss of power?

My 00 has 137000 miles, and I have a problem that goes like this: While driving, a sudden loss of power occures. It feels like 200 horsepower disappeares. I think the feeding pump has something to do with it, and I have ordered a new one. But when that sudden powerloss occures, the engine check light comes on. The codes reads; PO234 Turbo boost limit exeeded, PO236 MAP sensor too high too long, and PO238 MAP sensor voltage too high.



After driving a while the power gets back like a snap of a finger, and sometimes disappears again right away, sometimes it is just fine for 50 miles, then the problems are back. Sometimes the Engine check lights disappears without me resetting it manually.



Any ideas if I am on to something here? Where are the MAP sensor located on the engine?

Are you running any type of box? It sounds as if you are having a bad MAP sensor connection. I had to redo the wiring on my TST box as the MAP pigtail connector were going bad. After that not one more problem. So check your MAP sensor connections.

No box. Mods are Superchips programmer,4" Exhaust, aFe air kit, and Banks High Ram Air intake manifoil.



I´ll check for corrotion on the original wiring.

the same thing just happen to me on 01 turned out to be the injector pump when on vaction in vegas

Those codes are all for the MAP sensor (as you already know). I would bet that either you have a bad connection to the MAP sensor or you have a bad map sensor all together. You can get a new one from a cummins shop instead of the dealer.

Cleaned the MAP sensor, and added some 2-stroke oil in the fuel. After some of the same symptomes that has followed me lately to start with, the truck now showes in perfect working order... The lift pump is still weak, and the new one gets installed as soon as it arrives, but I think the extra lubrication of the 2-stroke oil gave the pump(s) the edge to work a bit harder. Due to winterseason the diesel are mixed with plenty kerosine, and that don´t lubricate well, thats for sure. I´ve been pretty stupid not using the fuel additive I used for the old diesel pick-up.

aarcuda, got my injection pump replaced in vegas too, on 3/19. Limped into vegas with no power. Truck running fine, just would not go. No codes or check engine light. It would just lose power and if you let off the throttle and got back on it, it would take off and run for a few seconds or not have the problem again for awhile. I have a fuel pressure gauge and it was at 12-13 pounds so the lift pump is good for now.
