Suggestions for best Toy Hauler

We're moving up from our bumper pull 29' Thor Fury toy hauler to a gooseneck or fifth wheel that will accomodate a sandrail/desert car. We love the Fury, but it is a bit too much foo-foo for me. I like the looks of the checkerboard linoleum, but I have to scrub and mop after every trip. I like the dual electric queen bunks, but we've decided that everyone else can fend for themselves so we have more room and cargo capacity. We want something a bit more utilitarian (Millenium, Santek, especially leaning towards TPD since they are local) so I can pressure wash the cargo area. I could get by with an enclosed trailer and a mattress, but SHE NEEDS a shower/potty, heat and A/C or it's a no go.

What else should I keep in mind? Any good stuff to lean towards? Any bad stuff to stay away from?

Yes, unfortunately I will be lowering my truck back to stock or a leveling kit height, maybe even convert it to a dually to make it more compatible with a larger trailer.

I also got tired of the mopout after every trip, so I bought a 29' 11K lb fiver and put a new rear bumper on it, I now just flat tow the jeep, trailer the ATV's or haul the boat, or go without, and the features and living quarters in a conventional fiver with slides is much better, and lighter, than any toy hauler can ever be.

Yeah, that's another option we've discussed, but the security of using our open landscape trailer bugs me. I may have a BUNCH of stuff to haul (at least with the quads and dirtbike now) like tool boxes, spare tires, sand paddles, gas, etc.

Although the fivers we've looked at are SO MUCH nicer for living amenities. We are ~15 years away from retirement, so a few weeks and 8-10 weekends a year is our usage - not anything near full time!

The garage I have in the 36 is 12' long by 8' wide... .



The 3712 is a new model but is only different by the kitchen slide.

There was only 1 major peoblem with my Raptor. The insulation on the walls is OK... at R-9 but the floor where the generator is, there is no insulation so the heat from the generator came up through the floor... . Also the front cap insulation was non-exixstent... It had settled down 2'... . Added some to the front cap area...

You know, with the market for trailers and RV's... it seems you have to go either small time or big time... . You have the bumper pull and the all encompasing having the toy in the trailer.....



The options is either a small other trailer or a 5th wheel with a separate wall... . which is what I did... I had the smaller TT and I love the 5th I have. If I need to clean the garage after a weekend, I can hose out the garage and the living area is separated... ..... There are alot of different makers that do this, one of the better ones is I think... KZ... but there are others... .

the Raptor's are very nice and the KZ new Vision's are right up there in second for a garage based TH.



If you really are looking for more utilitarian look at the campmaster by roadmaster of the work and play by forrest river. they are both car trailers first and rv's second. you can get them with short of tall walls poweder coated aluminum or gel coated sides.

Don't you guys get it? I want a 40' triple slide 5th wheel (for comfort) with a 20x8 garage. All I need now os the semi to pull it (legally!).

For future growth potential, I need at least 16' for cargo space, and as much of the 102" wide body width available inside. We've looked at the Raptors and the KZs and the CrossTerrains and they are great for combo units, but we don't need (or want) the plushness. I subscribe to toyhauler magazine, they are a great info source.

We even considered a Class A diesel pusher with an enclosed (or stacker) trailer, but $150k for the RV and $20k-whatever for a trailer is hard to swallow. Just the fact of having $32k (initially) invested in the trailer means I have that much less for toys!

The campmaster and work/play are the kind of options I'm leaning towards, thanks guys!

Well me being a poor man went out and bought a 83 chevy duelly and stretched the frame and put a flatbed on. I am going to put a 12 valve cummins in it with a auto, and then put the jeep on back and pull the camp trailer behind. It does what I want and its something I can handle cost wise, It also gives me the ability to change trailers later. You can see it at www.nwbombers.com, then go to rv section and under "it is started". Take a look , I now it is low budget but it should do what I need and not brake the bank. You can step up the tow rig or the trailer as needed. I wish I could afford a chevy kodiak {or it might be callad a topkick}. I have seen them in crewcab 4x4 design and then put a flatbed on it and pull the trailer, But I dont know if you can get it with a cummins, It comes Dmax allison. I have seen one with a aluminum flatbed and it looked very nice. Good luck and happy shopping.
