I'm trying to figure out the best way to route the winch power cables to the rear receiver hitch of the truck for my portable winch mount. Through the frame looks promising, but I'm worried about abrasion inside of the frame. Any nifty ideas? Need to get them run in the next day or so.

I used welding cable but don't remember what size for my Ramsey 8k on a quick mount. To the back I ran it in the blue flexible non-mettalic conduit, you can get at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. I've seen the same stuff in orange to run data/tele cabling in commercial buildings. I think it was made by Carlon but not being an electrician I don't remember exactly what the stuff was called so I couldn't find it on their website. If you are really interested post back or PM and let me know if you prefer HD or Lowes and I will go to get you the SKU. I'm on vacation at the inlaws and always looking for an excsue to get out.

Hope this helps

Great Idea!

Far be it for me to take any more of your precious time away from the inlaws by sending you out. :)

I know the stuff that your talking about, thats a great idea. Did you hold it in place with tie-wraps? I have 1/0 and that will probably take about an inch diameter. I may go a little bigger and run some other wires I need back there as well. Oo.

I used some Arctic Flex wire 1/0 I believe, both positive and negative cables are molded together (youcan see the wire in my gallery somewhere. I tied into the pass side battery, put some split loom on the positive side as I ran it past the turbo. I also put some of that heat resistant tape around the cable when it was near the exhaust pipe. From there it sat nicely on top of the frame rail all the way back to the bumper. I used heavy duty zip ties to hold on place about every 12-16 inches. It has been on there for over 2 years and no problems. Hope that helps.

I like the passenger side better as well because there is more room for my breaker and issolator, but am worried about the heat as well. That kind of tape did you use?

Hyde,

HD and Lowes only have 1/2 and 3/4 flex and I need 1 inch. I was hoping to run both down the conduit to make a nice clean install, but could just run the positive since the ground would just ground. What size flex did you use and did you run both down it?

If you do run the cable inside the frame rail, you can shoot in expanding foam to keep the cable from moving and wearing through the insulation.

Tired of the run-around.

One of those days where you know what you want, find it, get there and the computer lied to them:mad: Went to get the 1 inch non metallic flex conduit and all they had was 3/4 or 1 1/4. Got the 1 1/4, but it is HUGE. Now I need to see if it will fit. If it does, I will have a lot of room for additional wiring.
